Hi,

I'm in the process of replacing my glow plugs. I have done 2 and 3 already. I can't for the life of me find 1 & 4 and was hoping someone can take pictures of their location. I have the manual and I still can't find it. Any help is appreciated.

Paul

There is a tech bulletin in the tech section. For number one, remove the alternator and bracket and it also makes #2 easier to get at. 3 and 4 are the hardest since you need to remove the intake elbow

I think this shows glow plugs 2 and 3 with 4 off screen to the right

Thank you for your work. I meant to write in my original post that I can't find 1 & 4. I was getting frustrated last night replacing 2 & 3 due to putting back on the t-bracket and reinstalling the inlet elbow. I'm back at it looking for number 4 and hopefully I can find it with your picture now.

Also on 4, remove the fuel filter assembly.

Thanks everyone. I found them all. Glow plug 1 right behind the alternator, parallel with the floor. Just point your flashlight over the alternator and you will see the black cap that covers it. Definitely need extension and needle point pliers to get to it. For some reason I was thinking that it was at an angle and it was staring me in the face for an hour. Glow plugs were all black and dirty when removed but were still good except Glow plug 3. Glow plug 3 and 4 were replaced about a month ago. Used brand new metallic ones.

In case anyone was wondering - Jeep will start with only one glow plug. I live in a warmer climate, Southern California, but for the past few days it has been under 40 degrees. Really surprised by this. I asked my friend and said if the weather is warm enough it probably does not need glow plugs.

I got the GX3123 Diesel Glow Plug 7V made in Italy for about 43 US dollars. These are the easiest to obtain. The 5V ceramic have to be ordered through the dealership and are about the same or a little bit more.

Regarding the pictures - I tried but they came out unrecognizable. I tried to take pictures of the location of glow plug 1 and since it is far down from the top of where the alternator is the pictures do not come out well at all. Same with glow plug 4 because you can't get a good angle of the glow plug and its surroundings. Sorry about that.

Ceramics are now NLA (No Longer Available). You must buy a "kit" from Mopar which includes a new relay, steel plugs, and the ECU must be reflashed due to the voltage change. Or... the drop in aftermarket steels as you used.

Dieselglowplug.com $175 was with shipping also. Definitely go this route. At the dealership to get all 4 glow plugs replaced I was quoted around $1300.

Diagnostic check of problem - $100.00
Glow Plug kit - 310.00
Reflash 80.00
Estimated maintenance 6 hours - 720.00

Do yourself a favor and do it yourself.

WOW!! One dealer said worst case it would be 7 hours. The book said that removal of the intake and rocker cover (one unit) may be necessary for stuck plugs. Not sure abou any of that though... Need to get mine updated ASAP.
