Lets see, there is factory options of a high idle for warm up on the 6.6L Duramax and even the ancient 6.5L Diesel.
Just because VM/FCA don't know what they are doing doesn't mean the rest of the industry hasn't figured it out.

Just install a Webasto engine coolant heater, and you won't even have to warm up your CRD engine anymore by idling it.

Sasquatch Parts offers an upgrade battery tray where the Webasto can be installed underneath. E-mail me through this forum for details, and please provide your e-mail address.

Don’t forget the PTO manual idle up of the Cummins, most have it after 03

If you can't see the benefits of a high idle switch that's fine.
However that does not mean there isn't a use for it.

Dan, you do realize the first half of this thread is from 2013? Just making sure you noticed that!

I installed a high idle switch in my 6.5's, was very easy to do. I enjoy the high idle option in my 6.6 Duramax. So I get it that people might want it. I just see this as a different beast, no wire available so I guess the only way to do it would be to "fool" the temp sensor with a signal that it is very cold.

No I didn't but the question of GDE offering a high idle option was recent.
Having never seen a ECM pinout diagram I don't know if it's as simple as a 6.5TD or not. If not then could a tuner like GDE use a blank terminal for high idle input? Seemed like a simple question.

I'm no ECM wizard, but I'm guessing it's simply not available. In the case of the 6.5's, the capability was programmed in and a couple of pins were designated for it, ground one pin for 1000 rpm, one pin for 1,400, both pins for 1,700. Maybe GDE could program it in but I doubt they are still modifying tunes, these are getting pretty old at this point.

I recently installed my GDE hot tune and although they had an up charge for a “high idle” option I did not select it, but it seems they threw it in with the tune anyways.

What I can confirm is that stock idle was 750 and the startup rpm was the same. After the tune it now has a quick rev to about 1000 and then to 850 until there is some heat in the engine. On warmer days it very quickly drops to 750.

Above is factory elevated idle with cold coolant temps. GDE high idle is at 1500 rpm in park/neutral. This speeds the warm-up significantly.

Does this require a switch to select, or is it always 1500 when in park or neutral?

i would assume that it would go to 1500 instead of 850 the same as factory depending on temp sensor signal. I don't remember seeing anything on their website about any switch involved when viewed in the past. Hopefully GDE will respond.
I also assume its in park and neutral like factory so it won't be dangerous while in gear.

No switch, all ecu/ temp controlled. Tapers down as temp rises, but they can't sell it anymore, so kind of null and void

can't sell in US I have no idea how much non US business they do and they still can apply for certification for these kind of things it doesn't change anything about factory specs for running at 1500 rpm etc but I doubt they will. I hope as stated before they will allow a distributor to be formed outside the US to supply the US.

On other vehicles I've used high idle functions in 90*+ temps. It's not just for warming up.

If we walk in a dealership (God forbid)with an ECU, can they change the VIN without messing with the tune?
I'm pretty sure they can. Just not sure if it has to be in a jeep...
What I'm thinking is buy an ECU from another country, get it tuned (yeah, going to have major shipping costs as it will have to be sent to someone, then sent from them to Tuner, and received.) Then sent home to us. Then VIN changed by dealer...

But, then a person could recoup much of the cost by selling their original ECU on Ebay.

Can any of the businesses that specialize in "refurbishing " ecu's change the VIN?

What does this mean? I am getting ready to purchase and was just checking the high idle feature first (which is why I'm in this thread). There is nothing on the GDE website about not being able to sell the tunes in the US, and they are currently discounted $100.

EDIT: I now see on the GDE site that there are tiny letters that say "sold out" even though you can still add the item to your cart. Also, why didn't GDE mention this in the post they made to this thread *last week?!*

Because I think they may be working on some kind of solution to be able to sell again. CARB compliant tunes or something but I have no idea.

Thing is, if they do come back, their tunes will have a functioning EGR, FCV, etc if they want to remain complaint.
