Mil request from transm. Control Module (sAE) or Control Module Defective (VAG) Drove after a quick stop and no power. Second time sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders both times off on and fine. |

The 06 FSM says: 2. Set Condition: An active DTC is stored in the TCM. One Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL. Possible Causes - DTC PRESENT IN THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING). Diagnostic Test 1. DTC PRESENT IN EATX CONTROLLER - This is an informational DTC letting you know that a DTC(s) is stored in the Transmission Control Module. Erase this DTC from the PCM after all Transmission DTC(s) have been repaired. Using a scan tool, read the Transmission Controller DTC and refer to the Transmission Category and perform the appropriate symptom. Whether or not there is still a stored code in the TCM I don't know but suspect you will need a dealer or dealer equivalent code reader to access any TCM code and read it correctly. Have you had any problem with tranny engagement on cold starts after sitting for 6hrs+? If so that can store the P0700 code and the engine will run like crap and stall soon after starting unless you idle in neutral for 15-20 seconds to let fluid pump back up into the system. Just a thought. |

No as I always let it idle before heading out or give it some revs before engaging. I will try again today and check the fluid as well. I am new to EL Paso and know nothing of the dealers here. |

OK got in to go to work today and the CRD would not start. Everything rotated just fine but it would not fire. Got out the laptop and scanned it. "No Communication to the PCM", what? cleared the code and it fired right up? Could this be a key code issue? Or a PCM issue dealing with the speed sensors? I checked the fluid and it is good. |

Based on the KISS principle and "modern" heavy on electronics engines the first think I think about when you get odd electrical system problems is the battery and charging system. So what's the condition of your battery would be the first thing I'd look at. Remember unless the battery has enough "juice" things will rotate but the computer won't grant "permission" to start. Just a thought. |

Battery is good, about a year old and the alternator is new from about 6 months ago. Everything is all bright and shines still. It spun over without an issue several times. Not until I hooked up the ODB-II and clear all codes did it fire. |

Sounds like a battery issue to me. Do you have a Wet Cell battery? Have it checked for a bad cell. Hang in There. |

Optima red top. I can take it in for a load test. |

jinstall wrote: Optima red top. I can take it in for a load test. DO it and let's start from there. Check to see if a cell in the battery is bad. Here is what I was able to find from another Jeep forum regarding the P0700. "It may be the shifter. But don't run out and buy one, get some contact cleaner and clean the plates inside. It's rather simple to do. Remove the TOP of the shifter, OPEN it up and you can see these circuit boards and sliding contacts. clean it all and reinstall. The 0700 is a generic PCM code that says there are codes in the TCM. It takes a starscan hand held reader and the dealer has the tool." |

All good until this morning when I tried to back out of the driveway. Idle for 1 minute at 1000 rpm by foot. Set into reverse and 5 feet then the engine died. CEL on and turned it off. Wait 10 sec and it fired right up again. Reverse and died. Wait fired up agai an pulled back into the drive. Got the VAGCOM out scanned and cleared codes. Ran like a champ. Here are the codes. Starting to think it is a contact issue somewhere.

All those codes point to a battery problem. Did you have the battery checked yet? |

No I have been on a double shift. I am off in about an hour so I will have it load tested then. |

Try resetting the TCM and ECM. Unplug them. wiring issue? Spliced wire? |

I'll climb under it this weekend. I want to check all the ECM's connectors and clean them as needed. |

Just noticed that you have an 06 so have you considered the chaffing of the wiring harness behind the fuel filter that seems to happen from time to time on the 06? |

So I left the house today without the laptop. Guess what, it happened again. CEL and no start. darn, what did I do differently than normal, I opened the rear hatch with the key remote. OK so I locked the CRD with the key remote and then unlocked the door, stuck the key back in and turned the engine and and it fired right up and the CEL went out immediately! So I think I need to swithc to the back up key as this one may have an issue with it or maybe it is the receiver on the CRD. |
