Or maybe the salt just acts differently on the other side of the Mississippi.

Has anyone else experienced this? It seems that when I’m driving on the freeway and I let off the throttle or get back into it, the Jeep want to change lanes! Like it’s possessed or something. I have look at all the rear bushings and linkages, etc. but everything looks good. Anyone else fixed this? |

Would you get some torque steer from bad engine mounts? |

rear lower control arms will cause the issue you are having. They may look OK but if worn will allow the rear to dance around and want to switch lanes with you. Almost have to remove them to see how they are, just takes a few minutes |

I'm going to second the rear control arms. When I bought my blue jeep I first thought maybe its just a low tire as my military jeep will act really goofy if a tire is low but, as it would turn out there was a recall still outstanding on the jeep for the rear control arms. The jeep would kinda crab or at least the butt would push to right side when accelerating and then move back past center to the left when decelerating. I'd get it checked out before you try driving in snow or on wet roads. If you don't have a recall on your jeep to fix it I have a brand new pair I bought before I found the recall I'd be happy to sell to you for 65 bucks or so. |

So can the rear lower control arm bushings be replaced or do I have to buy the whole lower arm? I already have on my list to replace the motor mounts as I only have 145K miles on them and I'm sure they are in pristine condition. |

Was the recall performed on your Jeep replacing the rear lower control arms?? If not, don't worry about the bushings, just take it to a Jeep dealer and they will be replaced free of charge. If they have been replaced, than I doubt your issue is there. If it is, you may very well be under warranty with those still since the recall is still a fairly new recall, that is, in the past year or so. Good luck. |

The recall only applies to Eastern 'salt belt' states. The Chrysler site has the states listed. Apparently the salt used in the Rocky Mtns. is of a non-corrosive nature. |

Actually, IIRC the recall applies to cars based on the states in which they where they were originally sold, not where they might be now. |

the salt corrodes the steel starting at the welds (improper coating after the weld) and those will eventually break - but they shouldn't flex until just before they break the bushings however, die as a result of driving, not salt and worn bushings will flex and the cause steering with the throttle. (you can also get a slippery surface - keep it in Two wheel drive and powerslide - so that you learn to control the steering with the throttle - it's actually easier to learn on a Motocrosser) |
