This guy is selling the engine from his wrecked CRD, or willing to buy your CRD if you have a blown engine.

ive been emailing that guy back and forth all week. my problem is at least if you buy from some kind of junkyard you get some verfication of mileage, and at least a warranty that will cover it, even if it is only a few days. so at least if you fire it up and its banging away you get your money back, or another engine.

First two things I saw:

That engine is FILTHY for being "stored indoors" and having 29k miles on it. It is possible... But I don't know that I believe it. Stored indoors where, a steel mill?

Second thing: Where are the plugs for the back of the valve cover? Those shouldn't be missing, if the engine was as intact as the listing suggests.

Beyond that, his price is ludicrous for an unknown engine. Yea, you get a lot of parts on it over the cost of a longblock for mostly the same price... But are those extras worth it? What kind of damage to the donor vehicle? Front, rear, side, roof? I'd want to know that the engine didn't take a big shock... And even then, I don't know if I would go on this.

That thing is worth maybe $2500 tops as-is with no verifiable information.

i too want to know what kind of wreck it was in. what if it went on its side and all the oil poured out. at what point does it shut itself down?
these are things i tried to bring to his attention. he did after all, post it with "best offer", but then told me he was hard on 5,000. he tried to tell me how much crd engines sell for, i replied telling him that is what people list them for on ebay, they continue to relist them with no bids. he then told me how much a running crd liberty is worth, i sent him one that was local to me, and fairly clean, sell on ebay for 5800 last week. a dealer sold one needing some cosmetic repairs 2 weeks ago for 4800. why would i pay 5000 for an engine when for a coupke bucks more i can have a running driving jeep. he then offered to buy my jeep but doesnt want to pay because he has too much money tied up into the engine and shop labor to dissasemble the liberty.

Looks like someone made an offer on it, and it is still pending. Some folks think that they have gold with these things. Sadly, it does not seem to be the case anymore. Also, he says he can prove the mileage. If he can prove that and details of the wreck, he'll eventually sell it... but a warranty of some sort would really be ideal. If my motor blew up, I'd either rebuild mine or try to find one to rebuild. :2cents:

I have seen some pretty dusty engines depending on the geogrphical location. Mine are both very clean. I guess that is a big chunk of change with no warranty? I did also post in case some one has a blown CRD that they want to unload? :|

he replied to me saying he has to get 5,000 since he paid 5,000 for the roll over liberty, and paid shop time to have it dissasembled. someone is coming thursday or friday to pick it up for full price. doesnt have to deal with shipping. they didnt make any kind of payment so he kept it on ebay until the guy comes. i think thats weird being that he just lowered the price 500.

If he was selling it local (in person) then he will just end the listing outright... Lowering the price seems decidedly fishy to me too. I'm not buying his story either, but then I also don't care. Like MRausch said, he thinks he has gold. Maybe he'll get lucky and find a fool to separate from his money for that... It certainly won't be anyone that reads this forum.

Heh, you're welcome. That trite little phrase cost a lot of suffering and money to create, ask me how... But be prepared to buy the drinks. :5SHOTS: 8)

Does she know how to get it safely OFF, while still coasting to the side of the road? That tip could be the difference between an expensive repair / rebuild... And a REALLY REALLY expensive rebuild with fresh parts.

Gear into neutral FIRST, then key turned one click toward off - engine will be safely off within 1 second with this procedure, and wheels will remain unlocked and steerable to coast to the shoulder and see what happened. Use this technique anytime there is a sudden power loss combined with black smoke (both under throttle or not) from the back. Blown turbo hose is the more likely culprit, but has the same symptoms as blown turbo... Until the engine goes boom. Obviously, that is not what you want.

If I'm ever in Georgia I'd be be more than happy to fund a tell me why session.
The Princess is studying the ESDP (Emergency Shut Down Procedure) procedure. Which S/Sam should make note of in the Noob Section.
I'll be testing her. She's darn good about odd noises and unusual smoke on her little diesel.
Good advice Geordi.
