I'm new to diesel jeeps and I've enjoyed learning from everyone who takes their valuable time and energy to post information on this site. I've read Sams Noob Guide and performed the following: ccv hose modification, disconnect maf, remove and clean map sensor and install K&N air filter. My Liberty is a 2005 with 100,800 miles. I purchased it with 90,000 miles. The previous owner took very good care of the Jeep. With that said I have some questions. 1. I'm about to change the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, idlers, thermostat, boost hoses and serpentine belt. What else should be replaced or cleaned while I'm into the engine? 2. I'm reading about the glow plugs. What part #s should I use. I live in south Mississippi. 3. The map sensor was encrusted with soot to the point where it was hard to remove from the intake. Should I consider removing the intake for cleaning? 4. I purchased a torque converter from the company in California on Ebay. I was going to install it also. I experience shudder at low speed going up and down small hills. It feels like the tc is staying locked up while the transmission is changing gears. Has anyone had experience with these torque converters? 5. I will have G.D.E. reflash the e.c.m. and t.c.m. after the repairs are complete. What tune for the e.c.m. using a stock engine thats mostly on the highway? Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Bruce |

1. while you are at it replace the OEM fan clutch with the Hayden 2905 heavy duty unit (cuts in earlier than OEM is engine starts to heat up) and mod your fan shroud to make future access easier see viewtopic.php?f=98&t=64278&p=709322#p709322 for suggestions and links. 2. see http://www.dieselglowplug.com/gx3123-di ... svli5qq877 for drop in 7v replacements (no ECU reflash needed) cost ca. $180 US delivered. 3. wouldn't hurt if you want to tackle it. I don't have a write up but it's a bit involved IIRC 4. what company? 5. if it's just hwy no heavy towing go with the EcoTune and standard TCM tune. Most of the benefit in engine life and performance will be from the EcoTune. The TCM tune helps a bit mainly by restoring something like the pre-F-37 shift points and a bit better mpg in town, at cruise on the hwy (say 1800 rpm) it doesn't add anything |
