Do you need to take everything off at the front to change the timing belt? After fitting the TJM bumper, I can't even get the grill off. |

No you don't need to take the whole front end apart to do the TB job but it makes access easier if you do. I don't. |

I only take off the upper cross member, fan guard and fan blade and then there is plenty of room to do the timing belt.

  F Fuel pump Belt on. Removed 3 pins Cranked by hand. Then started; sounded fine. But look at the timing marks looks like exhaust advanced half a tooth after starting. Do I need to retime? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You should be able to reinstall the cam and crank timing pins after rotating two turns. If not it's out of time, ignore marks even if you made them. |

Thank you BlackLiberty CRD, I will try the two turn "check." Did the two turn check for the record - failed. Going to follow the procedure kjjet wrote. For some additional information prior to TB replacement both OHC sprockets teeth lined up with each other. Now they don'. Remember. 2 turns as in two full strokes not only two turns!! |

Why the marks? There is no need to mark anything. All 3 pins in, Conferm crankshaft mark at 90 degrees. Loosen cam shaft bolts (using a holding tool) and set the correct tension. Tighten cam shaft bolts (using a holding tool) to spec torque. Remove all the pins and rotate engine over by hand 3 times and recheck tension. Thats it! |

The timing was fine prior to test starting. Went and looked at photos/videos prior to starting. I think the tensioner did not hold or I did not use enough force to set it to it's max tension. Photo of tensioner   The exhaust and intake are now off by half a tooth. Is there a procedure to rectify? Or do just get all three pins back in with some finagling then put a locking holding tool on loosen and then redo the timing procedure? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Big Question: Did you loosen the cam shaft bolts? If you did not. Then you need to go back and put all the pins in and check for sure. Some may not agree, but not all timing belts are the same and not loosening the cam bolts may slightly effect the timing of the cams. That is why the cams do not come with a keyway. The cams are a pressed fit. They are to be slightly loose upon installing a new belt and setting the tension (therefore appling the correct tension throughout the belt) and then torqued down. I know lots of people will say they don't loosen the cam bolts. Thats your choice but your taking a chance the cam timing may be off slightly. Not a chance i want to take for 15 min's of time. By the book for me!! |

Ok I read on the other post you did loosen the cams. GOOD!! Therefore you have nothing to worry about. If you would feel better rechecking the timing by inserting the pins again, then do so. |

I would- Verify time of both cams, retime as needed. Retorque the cam bolts. I would degrease the backs of the cam pulleys, too. Retension the belt. |
