Post subject:  Fuel leak from top of fuel tank

Every now and then when filling up the CRD I notice a leak at the tank from somewhere on top.
I know there is some sort of breather or check valve up there.
Has anybody else encountered this problem?
What is the best way to fix it?

There's an anti-siphon setup in there and there is an additional tube held up just behind the filler neck. If that tube fell down, it could be leaking when you near fill. You can check that by looking up under the wheel faring with a flashlight. If it's only at some locations (i.e. try filling up at a different location or brand of station), it may just be auto-shutoffs not functioning properly at the pump. Sometimes, pumping slowly towards the end can help with that.

It was a usual station for me. If anything the pump shutoff was too sensitive.
I had to hold the lever and just let fuel trickle in.
Usually, when the low fuel light comes on it will take 19-20 gallons in the tank with no spillage.
This morning, low fuel light on, at 18.5 there was spillage out of the top of the tank.

I wish that I had an answer for you but I don't.
That said,
My CDR #2 did the same thing during the first fill up after having the fuel tank out for a lift pump install. My first thoughts were "dammit, I didn't get the large O-ring to seal!, now I have to drop the tank again" :banghead:
After a closer look, it was coming from the left, rear corner of the tank around the vent gizmo.
It hasn't done it since, I figured that I had done something to it while rolling the tank around on the garage floor.

I have/had this same issue. Exact same issue in fact. It is the "roll over vent valve." And Chrysler, in all of their wisdom, made this non-serviceable. I had a tank replacement, under warranty, late October 2012. It has an "updated" tank. What is updated? I cannot say. What I can say is that it is doing it again, and aggrivates the hell out of me. It is still under warranty, so it will be getting replaced again. No idea what caused this. The Chrysler fix is to replace the entire fuel tank assembly. Been there, done that....
