We need a Silver bullet for Valve-train, Bottom end (and to a limited extent) Turbo failures

For those of us who want to hold on to these CRD's, there is the constant risk of catastrophic failure of certain components...

After hours and hours of research, I think the best thing we could all do to mitigated those risks is install bypass filters..

I know some have already done it, and I know there's more than one way to go about doing it.....

Some have installed them under the hood, others have installed them in the undercarriage..

What is everyone's thoughts on this? Does anyone have pics of their bypass filter installs? let's see em'.

Been doing UOA and just changed the oil at 17K per recommendation.
As I am a little bit old shool, or that's what they tell me, so I have been slowly creeping upwards on OCIs with the filter.
Will send it in and see what they have to say.
Used 50/50 M1 0W-40 and TDT 5W-40 this last time around.
Previously, used 100% TDT. Came back excellent at 12.5K

BTW-I really like the TDT, but I have a bit of the 0W-40 around so I have to use it.

TDT 5W 40? Turbo Diesel Truck from mobil 1? I am just trying to figure out what oil to put in next, since I figured out T6 has reduced zinc levels now.

This is a 1st generation Amsoil unit I had laying around when we got the '05 CRD in 2007 and installed it right after we got the vehicle.

AMSLUBE

let me guess, your turbo, valvetrain and bottom end are all in fantastic shape, right?

If you could do it all over again, would you still install your filters under the hood like you did?

I'm thinking about going off a frame rail with this kit....

92K on the Liberty CRD and so far no signs of mechanical or turbo problems. I will be doing the TB replacement in the spring or early summer.

I personally like the filter mount under the hood...stays clean and no chance for road hazards to damage the filters. Also it is convenient when changing filter elements. The only issue on many vehicles is finding a place to mount the unit and when you do find room, you will have to construct a bracket of some sort. As you can see in my pictures, I built a mount from 1"x1/8" steel and bolted it to the firewall using existing bolts along with a vertical support to the fenderwell. A plate was welded to the 1" frame to bolt the filter mount to.
