It's possible my transmission gave up the ghost. I'm going to try to shove it into the the garage this weekend to make sure, but I want to figure out my options if a rebuild is necessary: - Rebuild it myself. Where do I find rebuild kits and possibly an online howto? - Buy a rebuilt one. Do they exist? - Tow it to a shop and have someone else deal with it. Any reputable recommendations for New England? Cost is a bit of a consideration, but I prefer to do it right, once. thx |

Normally tranny rebuilds are around $1800 and buying another around $2200 |

TC runs from $200 to $800 delivered depending; New pump is $250 give or take; master rebuild kit is around $250; Shift kit is around $75. I spent about 300 for a euro TC, which brought my parts cost to $800. With the replacment valve in the TransGo kit, I expect this transmission to last 250k miles. |

Just search for 45RFE or 545RFE on Google and you'll find a lot of options. Rockauto and other places carry things like the rebuild kits. The torque converter either needs to OEM or aftermarket. Because there are Dodge Hemi guys who do this, you can often run across "hot-to's" in a forum. The internals of our transmissions are same as that of the trucks or other gasoline Jeeps that used them. The case is different, so there isn't a direct swap that can be done. For mine, I didn't do an overhaul. I replaces the TC, front pump (I had a shop do this actually), and the valve body (Sharadon). I was told my TCM was bad and having GDE reprogramming it. I thought it was going to need to rebuild myself. |

Well I'm not sure yet. I'll be diagnosing it this weekend, but it's slipping and I can't get it to move. I'm going to pull the pan and see what's going on and am preparing for the worse. |

It's probably just the torque converter. My failure mode was that it moved when I backed out of a parking place and then it didn't move when I wanted to go forward. This was at 126,000 with the original TC. These are more or less expected to have a finite lifetime. One thing you want to do is flush you transmission cooler to hopefully remove any debris that may be there. For mine I used massive amounts of compressed air. You'll also want to make sure you get the cooler lines buttoned back up correctly...I missed mine and I ended having the power steering pump pulley grind part of the way through one of the fittings. I would much rather just replace the TC. How do I tell if the clutch packs are fried? I don't want to take it all apart more than once if possible. |

I may be in the same boat w/trans issues. I was working out of town and had just driven 150 interstate miles. Pulled off to grab a bag of ice and the 05 lurched a bit as I was parking but all seemed well. Came back and I put it in reverse and the Lib lurched a few feet and then stopped like it was in park. I shifted a few times into park/neutral/etc. Finally it began to move and I drove about 60 feet and it lurched to a halt again. Fluid is good, not leaking but it acts like it is stuck in gear even in neutral???? Help, Advice!! Thanks |

Because I am going to get the hot tune from GDE. If I want a up graded tc it's only $200. |
