2006 CRD Please see my other posts...

Once again in limp mode with codes 0300 multi misfires and 0299 turbo underboost.

About 400 miles since new map sensor and EHM mod., car was running great, went to limp mode and made it home. Restarted an hour later and runs good. Rechecked hoses and they seem fine.
84000 miles. Oil changed about 4000 miles ago. Have new type fuel filter head.
Have to top up coolant every 2 weeks....cooling system passed pressure check ok.

Any help appreciated!

P0299 need to check:

Air filter
Air restriction
Air leaks
Boost control vacuum supply
Boost pressure actuator
Turbo charger.

P0300:

Engine compression
Fuel injector quantity
Fuel supply contamination
Injector leakage.

This is according to the 2006 CRD Service manual.

Have you checked for frayed harness behind the fuel filter bracket?...I am too lazy to check your other posts. :oops:

Thanks for answering my post. Sorry that I phrased it the way I did as reading over the previous posts would not help the situation....

What I'm stuck with is that the Jeep Dealers around here have no clue about CRD's or care. The FSM items to check are beyond my ability, i.e. vacumn, injector leaks, compression test, etc. Can do these on a gas car but a diesel? There is no expert in this part of Florida that I know of or would turn the problem over to him.

Thus must trade it in and let the dealer send it to the auction. We have tried everything: removing the hoses and cleaning and checking for cuts and leaks, new air filter, new fuel filer head and filter, new MAP sensor, EHM, no airflow or fuel obstructions that we can find. Could it be the computer is our problem? How to check that?

Reading over posts on the forum is VERY helpful but it's my wife's daily driver and must be reliable. Am very grateful for the items you sent. If any reader wants to buy this great little car let me know.

Did you check CAC hoses off the vehicle after removal of the woven covering and were they soggy/spongy/oil soaked on the outside - if so they are leaking boost even without a tear
Injector leak - take plastic engine cover off and inspect fuel rail for leaks (a dry paper towel is helpful) and look at base of each injector. If injector base is dirty (not dusty but oilly dirt) replace injector "O" ring and copper crush washer

Checking for injector or vacuum leaks on a diesel is the same as a gasser. Compression test is a bit different.

Your coolant issue worries me. Add UV dye drive a bit and look for leak with UV light - paying particular attention to hose clamps and include looking at EGR cooler low on drivers side and oil cooler low on passenger side.

Thanks for the responses...

Have looked at the wiring as best we could see behind the fuel filter and the vacuum hoses behind the coolant tank, no apparent tears or damage.

The intercooler hoses are clean inside and out. On the one to the turbo I feel expanded slightly when the engine is reved.= the turbo OK?

Jeep does not throw codes and runs fine now with NO black smoke on hard acceleration.

Did not check fuel rail area yet or tried to bypass the vacuum pump.

Keeping fingers crossed until I get an estimate on a trade-in. Any info on Jeep Grands appreciated!!!

If it is a random or one time code, a tune might take care of it. Most likely the EGR flow is borderline restrictive. This can lead to the p0299. The misfire could also be from the same situation in cooler weather.

Thanks GDE. i would go for a tune and hose replacement (although they look good inside and out) but feel the numerous problems with this Jeep have rendered it unreliable and since it's my wife's car am thinking of trading it in.

I could spend another $1000 plus on the little devil and it might run up to 200000 miles but it's such a pain trying to fix all the problems it's time to change....


Want to thank you for putting me on to the fix for the fuel filter head problem a couple years ago. Without your help and others from this forum, there would have been huge bills from dealerships and no results....

If my mindset changes will contact you for a GDE tune.
