Post subject:  Weird thing happened this morning. Help diagnose

Driving into work pulled into the turning lane to head into McD's and it starts shuddering as I'm coasting to a stop. I have the GDE hot tune so I'm thinking the TC is going. Put it in neutral to give it a rev and was very sluggish. I could get it to rev past 1900 - 2000 RPM. Traffic clears and I start moving through the intersection, very slowly. So then I think I've lost a intercooler hose but didn't think that would explain the shuddering. Mileage is 99250 so also thinking I jumped a tooth.

So I pull into the parking lot and turn off the car and want to eyeball the hoses. Didn't spend much time doing that. Started the car same results. Vibrating and now power. Decided to walk into McD's to get my McMuffin and then call the wife to come get me and deal with it later. So after the few minutes downtime of me being in McD's I get back in, start it up and things are back to normal.

Anyone have any idea what caused this or more important what is about to happen?

Thanks,

Paul

I've had similar results with fuel filter issues. If it happens again, pump your filter head a few times. If it isn't difficult to pump, or if your plunger is stuck down (so you can't pump it) your filter likely needs replacement.

I would suspect fuel filter/head unit also, with my Hot Tune when I got "on it" the added fuel rate sucked an air bubble, then I lost power and made a fool of myself... Did your CEL come on?

That is what mine has been doing for around 3 years now. I have a eco tune and the first few times it happened I checked it all over. Fuel primer was hard, inter cooler hoses were good. It still does it every 3000-5000 miles. When it happens all I do is start it up and shut it off right away 3 or 4 times and it is fine. It started doing it around 70,000 miles. It now has 110,000 on it with original fuel head and no lift pump. To me it seems like it is an electronic problem of some sort, but I am no expert. I am convinced it is no air in fuel problem because it just takes a few start cycles to fix. I have been a mechanic on semi truck engines for over 30 years and to me it doesn't act like air in fuel.

Mine's done it a few times.

always been some sort of fuel issue, whether fuel head air leaks or clogged filter.

just about everything else gives a code.

Happened to me when I had a different power chip installed (now I finally have Eco). But every time it did that it went in limp mode. I also got P0652 thrown. May not be related, but I disconnected and reconnected the fuel pressure sensor (I think that's the one at least, lol) that is located on the side of the rail (not the one at the end) and everything was back to normal. But I never had a clogged filter since I change them in between 15-20k.

Sound like it went into limp mode. I had a similiar thing happen a few years ago and a Jeep Mechanic friend of mine told me to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then it started up just fine and has not missed a beat since. He said it was "Sensor Confusion" - when the ECU puts the engine into limp mode because it detects conflicting info from the sensors in the engine. You may have a sensor going, but then again it may never come back (like mine).

Howdy water eater - Welcome to LOST

you should probably start with the Noob guide http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=604519#p604519

in general most 'limp' mode's have to do with air in fuel - so the first check is to try pumping the fuel head to see if there's air

then try the new filter (reduces line restriction) and/or new fuel head with filter

but probably should start a seperate thread to keep responses on track.
