Post subject:  transmission shudder while coming to a stop

I just had a Suncoast torque conveter and Transgo shift kit installed on my 06 Liberty CRD. One of the first things I've noticed is the transmission or Torque Converter does not want to unlock when coming to a stop. It shudders and bucks just as I am coming to a stop. I've read posts referring to drain back issues related to improper installation of filters and the need to use ATF+4. Does my issue fall under the same root cause. My understanding of drain back was slow engagement of the TC on start up. My current problem appears to have the opposite symptoms, too much engagement even after extended driving.

I'd appreciate your ideas.

I had a similar problem a while back but not due to converter replacement. My tc was staying locked up and would act just as a manual transmission and would kill the motor as I was brakeing coming to a stop (as if I hadn't pushed in the clutch on a manual trans). My problem ended up being low fluid level. Not sure why it was keeping the converter locked but it has operated perfectly since I topped off the fluid. This may or may not be your problem though.

I had the same problem. And it was improper spin-on filter installation. It was installed wrong twice! The reason was that when inserting the filter it seemed well fitted, but after a close inspection on the proper car lift we discovered that the filter insert has to be literally hummered down into the place. After the correct filter installation all the symptoms gone!
