Post subject:  Waiting on the tow truck
Looks like the dealer I had doing the trans service and asked if I could have a fuel filter put on, forgot to tighten it. I spun it at least 1/4 a turn with my hand. The jeep died as I slowed down for traffic and got it into the autozone parking lot. What luck. All fuel codes thrown and I have nothing here to clear them. Getting it towed home and then calling the dealer first thing in the morning. Grrrrr. I think I am about to trade/sell this thing.

Bleed it until the tow truck got there, nothing. Got it home and let the battery charge all night and nothing. Still same codes and no start. Still looses it's prime. Towing was through my insurance so no charge.

With all those error codes it does not point to a fueling issue. It seems you have a wiring problem in the harness. Most of the codes signal a short to ground. Since the MPROP is shorted to ground it will not deliver fuel to the high pressure pump, thus the starting issues. All the circuits shorted to ground are on the same power feed. You need to start pinning out the harness.

Based on GDE's comment and the fact that you have an 06 you might want to pull the fuel filter head off; remove its mounting bracked from the firewall; and carefully check thru the wiring harness running behind that bracket for chaffed wiring. There have been reports of wiring problems in this area on the 06 models as the wiring route is slightly different and tighter than on the 05s, something to do with the stability control system IIRC.

Thanks! It is off to the stealer ship right now. I had no choice as I am down to one vehicle and have to go to work. I am waiting on the rental. Ill wait and see what they say. I have looked up used harnesses on eBay and can get one for about $250. IRS cheap enough to have as a spare and can take the original one and chase it down. If it is the FH, that was replaced by crappy dealer that started my headache back in 2010 with the botched TB service, so maybe I can get them to est the bill.

Dealer called, blown ECU fuse and needs a reflash. $181. Pick up today.

Now I need to reload the ECO Tune.

Another dealer unable to trouble shoot.

Called me back to tell me the ECU would not take the reflash. Said my ECU is fried. Really? Why is that? Silence. Well you will need a new ECU, that will be $1082 plus $225 to reflash it. Why would need to reflash a new ECU? Silence. I'll have to get back to the tech and ask them. You do that and call me back. Also if I purchase a MOPAR ECU and your tech plugs it in and the new ECU shorts, your dealer will eat the bill for a new ECU. Silence. OK Mr. Slater I'll get back to you after speaking to the tech. End of phone conversation.

Mind you this was after the previous conversation of the SA telling me I needed a bunch of services to my Jeep.

1. Transmission Service-Done last week
2. Fuel filter-Done last week
3. Diff fluids-Done less than 20K
4. Transfer case-Done less than 20K
5. Coolant flush-Done with engine replacement 33K

The SA was not expecting me to reply back like I did.

Bunch of rip off artists.... all of them.

Tell them you don't want to pay for their error and that you want to escalate it to Chrysler Care in Detroit.

I cut an past the following information from the web and from someone else who had gone through the same.

Call 1-800-992-1997 to speak with Chrysler Customer Service. (USA only).

Send suggestions and complaints to the Chrysler Customer Center, Box 302, Centerline, MI 48015.

The best way to contact Chrysler is by phone and the normal waiting time seems to be less than five minutes.

Many letters go into a black hole!

Be polite and calm but assertive at all times.

Do not take no for an answer but do not act angry or threaten them. This will make matters worse. They are often sensitive, defensive, and uninformed.

If all else fails, call back and speak to someone else.

One key for them, with out-of-warranty repairs, is whether the problem existed during the warranty period! That's a good reason to get all your complaints acknowledged by the dealer in repair forms and to keep them (and keep 'em well-organized).

Chrysler HQ

Never say bad things about your dealer or anyone else unless you absolutely must.

Do not subject them to the anger caused by your dealer or their employees. This will only hurt your case!

It is easy to be pegged and written off as a "bad customer." Don't let them put you into the loony category."

Sorry I have not updated.

Got the Jeep back after new ECU installed

Died again while returning to the dealer 6 days later, coasted into thier parking lot.

4 days later got it back, runs fine. Dealer has no clue.

YESTERDAY(9 days later), 200 mile road trip, flawless. 2 miles from the house hit a couple of bad repairs in the road and the CRD SHUTS OFF AT 55 MPH! Side of the road, dust storm, called dealer-towtruck-rental car, Grrr. While I am waiting I look under the hood, poking, moving, shaking anything electrical. Well I find out the NEW ECU is flopping around with a nut missing and the second one barely hanging on. Called the dealer back and told them what was found. So now I have a Nissan Versa as a rental till I get the CRD back.

I think I will start entertaining offfers and trade-in allowances for the CRD. I love it to death and it has done everything I have asked it to do. It is set up perfectly for what I need it for, but I thnk it is time for us to part ways. I have put entirely way too much money into this thing since new and have new parts sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. I have now come to realize that the $40,000 or so dollars I have invested in it, is not even going to break even.

Hacks, that's what you get nowadays with flat rate paid mechanics. They have to cut corners to make money. The techs get nowhere the $129/hour labor rate my local Jeep stealership charges.

I haven't had a single favorable shop (dealer or independent) experience ever in my life which is why I try to do everything myself.
