I am not one to ask questions but while replacing my thermostat today i noticed a wiring harness well 2 wires in between the air box and passenger fender? they are unused on our diesels well mine anyways one hot one ground and the hot was hot while the key was off. Now i have not looked any deeper into this but just wondering if anybody knows what they go to in a gasser? or has anyone used them for anything?

What colors are the wires?

I know that the Export CRDs have a "hood open" switch in that area....not sure if all USA models have this switch installed. :?

They appear to be blue with a maroon strip the other a dark grey or black as now my air box is all back assembled there sort of hidden

Possibly the unused harness for the export-spec side indicator lamps? Is there one similar over by the battery?

That could possible be what they would be for. But they they were hot (had power) with key off does not seem like it would be for the side marker light. I would try and trace them but they go right into the main harness on that side fender. I have not looked in between the battery and the fender maybe i will pull the battery out and see if there is one there.

Its life or death i was just curios what they may or may not have been used for.

Did Any models come with a dummy light for the windshield washer fluid reservoir as it is close to that location? And that would be a yes maybe thats what its for i honestly dont know if mine has a dummy light my reservoir is never empty. Ohwell. But i do beleive it is for the SWITCH, Underhood as thats were it is close to as seen on the Parts Fiche.

Pic?

Side repeaters would only power with the turn signal on or 4 way flashers.

There is a highly annoying light that flashes when my washer fluid is low. . . and a chime.

The 2006 circuit diagram shows the 'hood ajar switch" to have a Violet/Light Blue wire (hood ajar sense) and a Black wire going to ground.

Would not really expect to get +12 volts on the one wire though......I wonder if a small light bulb placed over those two wires would actually light up? :?

Sounds like the colors are a match. It may be powered whenever the key is in the ignition (similar to door-ajar sensors) and simply have "alarm on open" logic in the BCM if present. There's probably a nominal current present at all times on equipped vehicles and the alert condition (or a trigger for underhood lights, etc) would be indicated by the circuit being open.

I'll be willing to bet it's an awfully low current draw if you put an ammeter on it when loaded.
