This guy even has the nerve to tack on a core charge? 112K and he wants $4000 + $500 core charge for a used, not remanufactured engine?

Took a look at that and I found one that's even more, lol.

That's what happens when there are only few if them. On the opposite, you can buy a 4.0 6 cyl for an xj with less than 500 and around 100k miles. A rebuild 4.0 is less than 2k. Few years ago I saw a crd engine on eBay, rebuilt but w/o accessories for 5.5k. I wonder how much would be to get one from Europe...

Time to email George at The VM Specialist and ask. They claim to sell everything on and in the engine, up to and including rebuilding the block, and that they can ship world-wide. I would wager a fine chocolate chip cookie that they would be cheaper and deliver a better quality engine than something from Ebay... That somebody maybe rebuilt in a shed.

A core charge is patently ridiculous when selling a used part. A rebuilder or retailer accepts a core charge if they are involved with rebuilding or remanufacturing the engine. This "core charge" is really just a "PT Barnum (sucker) charge".

Exactly. They are hoping the successful bidder does not see that?

Years ago when I had my Repair Shop, lots of Salvage Yards had core charges on engines and transmissions. They take what you return and sell it to rebuilders to make more money. You would not believe what I returned to get my Core charge back.
Of course I had the Customer who always wanted their parts back, even the dumb as$es who I told that I was having their cylinder head repaired and rebuilt by a machine shop. They looked at the shiny Cylinder Head and thought it was new so they wanted the old one back. One dumb as$ was a University Foot Ball Star. LMAO
