Can you still find them as I could not at local Walmart as well as Sears......

Yep, I get them from Advance. I have four on the shelf now. Pep Boys also carries them.

Could you guys post if there is one from that list that will NOT fit because of the rock guard/under armor? I'd hate to get one that I won't be able to fit in...

Almost all of them should fit as the oil filter does not stick down but along the body line so even the oversized ones tend to fit fine.....

Cool, thanks! As long as the biggest filter doesn't have more than 4 inches in diameter compared with stock, I think is fine. Eye-wise, it seems there are about 2-3 inch between bottom of stock filter and the shield.

I prefer to use NAPA gold filters or peculator pure one most of the time. I have used Motorcraft once when I was not able to get to Napa and advanced auto parts didn't have the pure one in stock. I change the oil every 6,250 miles.

From what i can find MANN+HUMMEL make Bosch & Purolator. Wix makes Carquest and Napa. For sure lots of choices out there.

Is anyone aware of any oil pressure issues with using an oversize filter? From what i can find on the web, some people state no problem. Wile others claim oil pressure fluctions and may cause a slight delay in getting oil pressure upon a cold start?

I am not sure who is correct? So far i use the OEM size. But is bigger better??? or will you have oil psi issues. With no oil pressure gauge how would you know?

What do you think?

My :2cents: is to stick with the stock size filter as there have been fewer issues this way it would seem (from what I have been reading and gathering). I have seen reports of high mileage/no trouble CRD's running either the Pure One's or Wix (NAPA) filters. The Purolators have the stock type check valves unlike the Wix/NAPA (see an old thread I posted cutting open the Italian made Mopar filter and a Pure One, they are very similar). I am curious what kind of filters folks in Europe are using on these things? Mann is an excellent filter. I have used them on my Volvo's and VW/Audi products for years with no troubles. I also have used Purolator once in a while on those with no issues either.

Agreed Mike. Mann filters are good. I used them in my Volvo, MB and just starting in my VW TDI. I also used the Purolator. I have also driven Fords since I was 16 and have allways used a Motorcraft in them with no issues. Have 2 now.

I just never installed a larger filter than OEM. So i have no history if its i good or bad thing?

Mobil 1-M301

Been using it since I purchased the beast about a year ago. So far no problems.

as for the oil pressure fluctuations there shouldn't be any as long as there is no air. Oil will not compress so as long as your system is full you shouldn't have a problem.

I would have to agree, but not everyone dose. Engineers at Honda don't. They say there is PSI fluctuations in their engines with a larger filter.

I have used Mobil 0W-40 and Mobil 211 filters for 114k miles with intervals ranging from 6k - 9k. I seem to be ok, but I've had the GDE Eco tune for the last 30-40k.

Based on GDE's own use. I am going to switch to Rotella T6 5W 40 with a WIX filter during my next change.

Well I have used Wix 51516 filter since I got the Cherokee about a year ago. I change oil every 10000 km and first I used Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 but now Castrol Magnatec 5w-40 C3, both oils are fully synthetic.

Now I bought Wix WL7206 oil filter. It's made in Poland by Wix-Filtron. It looks little bit different than the American made filter, maybe more like OEM filter? I have not installed it yet though...

Lostfinn....lots of difference between Finland and US oils. Filters? Maybe not. Do most people use standard size filters or oversize?

I have an oil pressure gauge and an oversized filter. No fluctuations to be seen. As long as it has an anti drainback valve then you won't have dry start problems.

Very interesting to see all the different variations of filter / oil combos here. I've only changed my oil twice in the 4 months I've owned my CRD. First time I used the Mopar filter and the second time an Amsoil filter. I run the Amsoil full SAPS 5w40.

M1-301. Year ago, actual tests were done to measure filtration. Today I see a lot of 'I buy it because I always have'.

Brand name means absolutely nothing. One example is the OEM (style) Optima Redtop battery. It's made in Mexico and the quality is inferior. I use Napa Gold (made in China) fuel filters. I'd get something better if I could find it.

I could be entirely mistaken about my oil filter views. . . I'd welcome some discussion that involves actual testing of the filter. Manufacturers (according to Blackstone) are highly reluctant to publish actual filtration stats.

CATCRD...
What filter do you use?
Oil PSI Gauge... NICE! I am thinking this may be a real good thing to have in the CRD. Due to some of the problems it has. Do you have any pic's?

If a filter is recomended for use in a CRD, then it should have an anti-drainback valve?
Correct or Not? How would you know?

I changed over to full SAPS. I run a lot of miles so I will be doing an oil analysis by the end of March.

Not that I'm impersonating catcrd, but many vendors have filter specs listed, which include anti drain back valve. For ex the big wix from summit racing states it has drain back. I also know that m1-211 has the drain back. Autoparts don't mention that.

And yea, some pics/instructions on where catcrd mounted the oil pressure sensor would definitely be appreciated. Also, if you have a turbo boost or exhaust temp, where have you installed them? I plan on doing all of them but still looking for some ideas before I start.
