I was finally able to pick up my travel trailer today. Travelled from SE Mass/RI to Albany NY. Weather was not the greatest with rain and snow showers and windy conditions. First, when the tech unwrapped my hitch, it was not the Reese SC that I ordered. It was a regular round bar WDH. On the phone to my salesman, who use to work on the railroad with me. Worked it out and got the more expensive dual cam hitch for $100. I overhead the manager in the back room saying they were going to be eating some cost and labor. On my way home, the wind was pushing me around a bit. But the liberty towed great for her size. Much better than my trip with the rental this past summer. The EcoFT was great, pulling most of the hills in 3rd between 55 and 60. The trans tune worked superbly. I noticed a few things, mostly with the trans tune. When you lock out the OD and keep your foot to the floor while pulling a hill, it pulls 2650 RPMs at 60 and the pyro goes to 1200 pre turbo. Put it in OD and get to a hill, and she kicks down and unlocks the TC and pulls like 3500 RPMs and the pro jumps over 1350 degrees. Ended that experiment quickly. All hills were taken with OD off. My TC is definitely on its way out. She did not like OD on the Mass Pike with its hilly terrain. On the flats south of Providence, no issues in OD (4th gear) I am still experimenting with the 2nd to 3rd shift. When it shifts, it immediately locks the TC into 3rd. So far, I like to manually shift into 2nd and then into 3rd at a higher speed so that the RPMs don't drop so drastically and you're lugging it. ![]() ![]() Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD |

Congrats on the trailer purchase! I envy you for having the tranny tune on your CRD. I lost my torque converter several months ago and I wish I had replaced it a long time ago. I thought I was safe using the eco-tune. Did you track fuel economy towing? |

Nice rig ya got there, @ChooChooMan. Save for the color of the Jeep, you'll look like my twin going down the highway. When warm weather gets here, do pay attention to overheating. A full height TT like that has enough aero drag to it to cause the temp gauge to rise on ya, and I've found it very helpful to lock out the OD and keep those revs up with the TC locked so the fan gets a workout. See ya in the campgrounds, dude! |

Thanks guys. @drewd - I didn't track fuel. Towing on the mass pike was not a good test of towing fuel economy. Lots of food. To the floor hills @naturist - we rented last year and had issues with the Jeep getting hot. That was before the trans tune. I was pulling hills foot to the floor and at 3500 rpms or so. This year with the trans tune, foot to the floor, no movement on the temp gauge. I also did have a new stock thermostat and it was 30 to 40 deg cooler. Another thing I did, I went to the car was and used the water gun to clean the heat exchanger stack. This summer, I am thinking of pulling the stack to clean the intercooler and to check the fins on both for debris and damage. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD |

Choo, When we towed with our first camper, we had some issues with the tranny getting hot. It was related to a heavy load driven up a very steep, twisy, pass at slow speeds. Engine temp guage was fine the entire time and at the time I was clueless thinking the tranny had a liqud/liquid heat xchanger in the enigine coolant radiator but I know better now. There wasn't enough air flowing across the stock tranny radiator. Last week, I averaged 20.1 over 300 miles towng 2200 lb trailer with our Liberty. Not bad considering we travelled over Hoosier pass twice. |

That's a pretty big trailer. Looks great though. What is the length and weight? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

@drewd - large transmission cooler was installed last year. I should be fine there. @xodius - 24' ball to bumper. Slightly smaller than my rental. 3600lb dry weight. Well within the specs for the CRD. Biggest issue is the drag. When I have to pull it at 60 down a grade with a runaway ramp, then you know you have a sail behind you. Thats a good looking trailer. Would you change any thing on the tow tune. I'm ready to buy the tune. Concerned on the custom settings. Wanting to do it right the first time. Keith said it's a 100 dollars for a change after you buy the tune. Will you share the shift pattern you picked . THanks |

Nice looking rig. I have a similar setup and tows great no worries. Mine is 4000# loaded. Hooked up a nice digital brake controller and installed heavier 5000# springs in trailer to reduce sway. Running stage 2 tune at 26psi and getting about 15-18 mpg at 65mph. Gotta hit the overdrive button off if I need to lean on it to pass cuz oem TC is chattering. That is next on my list. My trailer is clean too (no soot) with thru exhaust and egr delete. You sooting up your camper? What exhaust do u have? Mine goes to 1350 per turbo on occasion but usually runs between 900-1100 deg F. Jeff |

But there, you have to balance fuel economy when not towing. But as of now, just working on controlling my shifts. Biggest problem with the 2-3 shift is entering the hiway. Another thing, speedometer calibration. I am going to attempt to have it done when I do my L27 recall. I have it custom to shift 5th at 65 and it is happening at GPS speed 62. So, if I am going GPS 60, I have no room for speed variance without shifting to 5th. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD |

I currently have the stock exhaust. I will rub my hand on the nose and see if there is soot. Does your spare interfere with your trailer? I have to take mine off. This one is taller than my rental trailer. The ball rubs on my stock sized spare even with the inverted mount. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD |

No problem w/ hitch and spare. I use a heavy duty solid bar insert that sticks out a foot beyond receiver. It also has swaybar attached. This one is 2 5/16" I also tow around an enclosed 2 place snowmobile trailer, jet skis, tow dolly , and flatbed trailer. So I made up another lightweight receiver with 1ft extension and adjustable drop. This one is 2". I use these inserts on my dodge cummins and suburban too when pulling my larger car trailer. My cummins gets better fuel economy than the CRD but the looks I get towing w/ the crud are priceless. Jeff |
