I need to unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel. How do I manually turn the engine so I can rotate all that? thx |

You can turn the engine over with the crank shaft nut but you would need to remove The fan and radiator shroud to get to it...you can try turning the engine over by turning the alternator but it may not work tho sent from my sgh-1717 running CM10 |

See http://www.beesvillebeefarm.com/jeep.html for general idea on fan removal. On first removal the fan shroud must be pulled at the same time so a) be careful not to misplace the 2 fan shroud bolts as length is critical; b) I'd suggest zip ties to make sure the nuts for those bolts don't "escape" their open sided recess; c) best use a towel or piece of cardboard between fan and radiator to prevent damage while removing fan and shroud; d) the AC and coolant lines on top of the shroud can be laid back on top of the engine out of the way; e) the shourd has the be tilted L and R as appropriate for the "ears" for the retaining bolts to clear the CAC hoses; and f) do a fan shroud mod (pick one from those noted at viewtopic.php?f=98&t=64278&p=709322#p709322) so you don't have to repeat this nonsense again. FYI manual engine rotation is CLOCKWISE only as viewed from the front. Rather stiff on compression stroke so a long handle tool is helpful |

How is the allen wrench supposed to help stop the fan clutch? I'm putting one in the hole shown here, but it doesn't seem to have a catch point. What am I missing:

Chuckle, it's certainly on there tight. I've used both the allen key trick and a deep socket set on that bolt head and held in place by a rachet handle. Once the fan base is held undoing the nut can require a certain degree of persuasion; in my case a Lisle fan clutch tool and an air hammer. A bit of anti-seize might help in future removal and by the way no particular need to torque the nut on reinstall; just run it down until it stops as normal operation will add any additional tightening needed if any. As to the # of bolts the FSM pictures I can find imply 4 and GDE's TC instructions (http://www.greendieselengineering.com/f ... st/37.page) say 4. PS if you are already in there with the fan off then in addition to doing the fan shroud mod I'd strongly recommend dumping the OEM fan clutch and replacing it with a Hayden 2905 (ca. $43 on Amazon with free shipping). It's a much stronger clutch and engages (as does the OEM based on air temp off the radiator) at a lower temp than the OEM which will catch an engine temp rise shortly after it starts rather than well after it's begun. The former is much more likely to stop/prevent overheating than the latter. |

I used a screwdriver to hold the clutch in place while I whacked on the wrench. That seemed to be just enough to loosen the nut. Haha. I plan on doing the fan belt while I'm in here. I hadn't thought about the clutch, but that's a good idea too. thanks for all the help. |

I got mine from O'Reily for less than the Mopar one, better fan clutch too. |
