Have a new factory ignition key for an 05 CRD (bought it used without keys). The ignition cylinder works fine, the key goes in and starts/shuts off fine, but sometimes (it is intermittent) the key won't return all the way to the "off" position, it gets stuck in the first position ("Acc"?). Usually waiting for a few minutes allows the key to be rotated all the way to off and removed. Isn't there a cable that runs from the auto trans gear selector to the ignition (shift interlock cable) that "locks" the key (prevents it from being removed)? I believe I may have a faulty one if so.

Apparently there is an updated part # 1-52125305 AD (entire shifter assembly) and part # 1-52109779 AG (accompanying updated shift interlock cable) that will resolve the issue. Has anyone tried it and does it indeed fix the problem or is it just a waste of time/money?

I have this problem occasionally with my crd as well. It doesnt bother me that much cause all i have to do is pull the shifter out of park and return it back to park. I would say it happens once or twice a month with mine but its such an easy process to release the key its really no biggie.

Could be:
1. a bad key cylinder - replacable I assume but I don't have a PN or how to set for a particular key cut
2. a problem with the "rod" from the key cylinder to the ignition switch on the other side of the steering column - replaceable see Dorman # 924704 (Dorman site has an install video)
3. if jiggering the shift lever solves the problem then grab a copy of the FSM from Sir Sam's NOOB site as it appears the cable in question may be adjustable.

Can you pull the lever through it's entire range without pressing the trigger on the front? If so there's a small 2 piece plastic spring loaded push rod inside the lever that has broken. This is the same crap plastic they used on the window lifters and there is simply not enough of it to withstand the forces involved . This part probably costs a few cents to make but, of course, the Chrysler solution is to replace the entire assembly :banghead:. Hopefully they've engineered a lasting fix for this issue with the updated part.
