 Post subject: Ball joints

Hi had anyone had to replace their lower ball joints. Wondering if it is s simple job.Pep boys have them for 38$ each but it seems the prices on ebay vary from 20 a pair to 65 a pair. Any imput would be appreciated

before you do that check with Chrysler. The LBJ were a recall item on the Liberty and they may be covered still.

If they are NOT covered, I asked this question in the general forum. What is a decent press to get? Would the one from Harbor Freight be ok??

I checked with jeep and the PO had the recall done in 2006

Most of the common presses out there are too small for the size of the joint and knuckle. Make sure you get something that says it has 4x4 capacity, IOW not for little Hondas. The one I rented from autozone was barely big enough. 1/2"impact wrench is almost mandatory. I recommend the greasable Moog K3199s which is what most of us put in instead of more OEMs.

I thought I recall something about a "lifetime" warranty on ball joints installed as part of that recall. I may be wrong, but it may be worth checking with a couple dealers on that.
