So I've got a question-I've been looking here in the threads, but haven't found anything specifically addressing this. Shortly after buying my 06 last year, I did the ORM, EHM, and added an airtex fuel pump. Since then, with the EHM, I've noticed that I have to keep extra oil in the Jeep at all times, as I'll burn a quart or so a month-Obviously not an issue before I did the EHM, as the oil levels were fine. Has anyone else experienced this, or is there something else I should be worried about?

A Quart a month? I would be pretty solidly concerned.

I'd have to double check, but yeah, it's a good amount. Thing is, no smoke out the tailpipe, and no oil leaks anywhere. Jeep is dry as a bone...the only thing I can see is that the EHM fog is the oil burning off, as I'm idling/driving...

My guess is you are overfilling with oil and it is getting rid of the excess. My wife's Jeep goes 3-4k miles a months (155k currently) and it barely uses any between oil changes. (5k). I have the ORM and EHM.

Yes, make sure you do not go above halfway between the FULL and ADD marks.

Hopefully, that will drastically reduce your oil loss. Also, make sure EHM is not restricted.

Your dipstick is incorrect. Don't worry, everyone's is the same way: wrong from the factory.

If you use the slightly-larger-than-stock M1-301 Mobil oil filter, your oil change quantity becomes 7 quarts exactly instead of 6.4. Drain the pan and leave it open to drool for a good 10 minutes or so, then close it up. Having the oil cap open may help it drain a little faster.

Now with the new m1-301 filter, pour in 7 full quarts, and start the engine for about 15 seconds. Shut it off, walk away for 10 more minutes. The oil passages are VERY VERY small, so it takes a while for cold oil to drain back down.

NOW check the dipstick, and use a small file to scratch your new "I am properly filled" mark on it. The engine shouldn't use any from this point, but obviously keep an eye on it.

The reason the dipstick is wrong is that Mopar just used anything they had on the shelf, rather than actually calibrating it to the car. At the same time, any excess of oil ends up being sprayed as a mist across the top of the head and eventually forced out the CCV... Wasted. Once the engine reaches a happy place, that mist becomes much less oily.

Ahhhh, that makes me feel better....I'll take a look at that and keep an eye on it, to see what its doing then. I am running the larger filter, so I will take the full 7 QTS. Thanks for the info, and I'll let you all know how it turns out!
