I have an 06, buddy has an 05 crd, he brought up the idea of performance injectors, using extrude hone, or other methods of opening up the nozzles to flow more fuel. anyone with experience, or are they too tied to the ecm calibrations?? Just kicking a spring mod idea around, thanks for any and all help.

To small of a run of these motors in the US for the diesel aftermarket to pick them up to that extent. And in the UK where they are plentiful there is barely half the diesel aftermarket as there is here. So being a past diesel modifier I would have to say no. Plus larger injectors would be needed also larger CP3 and larger turbo to get the full extent then you would need a new ECM program to run it all. But I know a few guys with custom built injectors for their cummins (2200 lb tourqe and 1600 lb tourqe) if you really feel the need to try.

yes they are needed lol. i have also been thinking about this. are you sure you need a different cp3? or is it possible to program the cp3 to flow more fuel. i wasnt thinking of doing anything crazy. but 20-25% more flow. and with the variable vane garrett it shouldnt have any problem clearing up the smoke. it would prob a boost a little with the extra fuel flow.

Ok let me start with black smoke is bad and with the hot tune I get black smoke at WOT which is as high as GED was comfortable running the injectors and turbo. And I believe the VGT turbo is at its max and the CP3 on ours might handle it but will probably be close to its limit. Plus for the money you spend sourcing said injectors or having them built you could have a turbo set up worth the extra flow.

fully aware of all the ins and outs of the whole line of what needs to be done.l I daily drive my cummins with twin cp3's, both modified, injectors are honed out twice as big as stock, regulated 20 psi fuel supply pump, 64 mm turbo that is being force fed by an s480, a hamilton cams bump stick moves the valves, and UDC tuning by me via laptop. it would be no big trouble sending injectors out to get honed, cp3 could be customized, something like an arson 3 kit that comes with a new fca, gear rotor pump, and a few other tweaks. then the turbo would need to grow to supply more air to clean up the smoke, and head studs. just trying to see and gauge what is or isn't out there before I try to invent the wheel.

GDE turbo kit is the proven way of squeezing max power out of a KJ CRD while maintaining reliability, driveability and economy.

Talk to Keith. Before you spend all that money, though, why not get a HOT tune? Keith will upgrade you for very little. Lots more power than than the ECO you have now and same economy if you keep your foot out of it. (If you do not have an upgraded TC, spend $$ on that first.)

"Euro" TCs are apparently available again in the US and priced UNDER $300.

No performance injectors are available in the aftermarket that are drop in, you would have to modify stock units. Extrude honing a NEW set of tips is the best choice, 20% or so.

What you'll find with these engines and vehicles, very much unlike the Cummins/Dodge combination that you are no doubt quite familiar, is that weak links and hard-to-find parts abound. Rocker arms are an example. As are axles.

If you and your bud are looking to make these mongrels hot rods, I strongly suggest that you stick with the Dodges.

BTW, I work in the aftermarket diesel parts and service industry, drive my CRD everyday for the job and see/hear about turned-up trucks, GM, Ford and Dodge frequently.
