Oh and it went into limp mode too. So I did a code scan with both VAG-COM and GDE programmer. VAG-COM displayed U0121, P0700, and P0725. GDE displayed only the first two.

Immediately when I started it up it went into limp mode. It was parked on an incline and I'm wondering if the trans fluid was sitting in the back of the trans? I drove it a couple blocks in limp mode and pulled over. Shut it off, restarted and all was back to normal with the exception of the check engine light.

Should I just clear the code and keep going or have it checked out?

I had the same problem last year and the dealer diagnosed and replaced the Torque converter, transmission front pump, transmission filters, transmission fluid, transmission cooler, and cooler hoses.

It's currently in the shop waiting on a new TC and valve body, due to gear 3 - 5 not engaging. I hope it's done.

I think your problem may be the Transmission fluid drain back problem as others have experienced. Do a search.

Some have replaced a bad transmission filter and it solved the problem and others like me needed additional work.

Wow, that's not bad going. Mine was delivered brand new from the dealer with the CEL lit and it's been on and off ever since.

I did have a Suncoast TC installed in January and of course both filters were replaced and I put Amsoil ATF in. We only put 12 quarts in because at cold it was a little over the cold area on the dipstick. However I do remember the database saying it took 14.1 quarts so I could be a couple of quarts low. I don't want to overfill and do damage.

Does the drain back and P0700 code force limp mode?

I strongly suspect you are a couple of qts low on ATF which can cause odd tranny problems, not necessarily the same as the drain back problem, especially on first start if parked on a significant incline. The FSM says a full service fill (TC replacement) is 13.33L or just a bit over 14qts. I suspect that if you followed the factory fluid level check method on level ground the cold level would be below the mark and the hot level might be barely at the cold mark (FYI hot = you can barely touch the fluid on the stick because it's so hot - in other words much hotter than warm).

P0700 is a valid code but all it is is a message from the ECU that a tranny code (can only be pulled with a dealer equivalent scanner) has been stored. I would imagine low tranny line pressure could trigger a limp mode which would self correct on restart if the pressure was ok. Back when I had the drain back problem if I did not bring the pressure up on startup (hold a high idle in neutral for 10 seconds or so) I would sometimes get a hard stall and a CEL but the CEL always went away after like 3 good restarts.

Anyway do a fluid level check and add fluid as needed and do several drive cycles which should clear the CEL.

OK! I will add a quart to the trans and see where that puts me. It has leaked since the TC install anyway so it won't hurt. I will give it a few days to see if the code clears.

Must be something in the So Cal weather.. My CRD is at the transmission shop now. Turns out that when the f-37 transmission work was performed, they put something together backwards and trashed my transmission case. Warranty ended 11k ago and I know that Jeep wont cover it but GRRRR this sucks!!!!! But I guess I was one of the lucky ones, they never reflashed the TCM :) Looking forward to heading to Big Bear this weekend and getting the jeep dirty :JEEPIN:

Check with Chrysler customer care.... they helped me with my transmission work out if warranty. They informed me that the TC is still under the F37 recall warranty, it doesn't end, but other parts are not covered.

Well I have a Suncoast TC installed. I'm going to address the P0725 code from Address 41 which says something about an "Engine RPM sensor". That was the description in VAG-COM in the OBDII area.
