Is there a trick to taking the crank pulley off? I have the 4 10 mm bolts off. The guide I've been using says the crank nut does not have to come off. I kinda tapped on it a little and tried prying on it but I'm using the timing belt cover as the fulcrum (not sturdy). |

Whack it a bit harder on the sides with like a heavy plastic mallet. There tends to be a bit of rust sticking it in place. Should pop right off |

Dead blow hammer works the best. Just don't damage it by using a steel hammer. |

I used a heavy rubber mallet. It's just rust/dirt that's lightly glued it on.. but it should come off without undue violence. Don't take off the crank nut - that won't help anyway. Mark |

If you look at the face of the pulley you'll see some nubs in the casting near the outside edge (but on the face, not the edge). I used a beater screw driver against one of these and tapped it with a mallet in such a way as to turn the pulley. This broke the rust loose for me easily and it fell right off. Another method I used on a different CRD was an air hammer on the same nubs in the casting...again in such a way as to attempt to turn the pulley. |
