State Farm wants to total her. I was trying to turn left, four people ran the yellow/red. I really thought the fifth person was going to stop.

Front fascia is gone, radiators are popped but the engine appears fine. Insurance wants to total her.

I'm waiting for a quote from the body shop to see if I'll take my payout and get it repaired anyway.

Ouch. Glad you are OK, sorry for the Jeep.

Good luck Dan, we weren't so lucky on our attempt to renegotiate with the insurance. Make sure they don't want to brand the title, or it is pretty much game over.

They do want to issue a salvage title. Doesn't matter much to me, I don't intend on selling it as a vehicle, it's worth far more as a pile of parts.

**EDIT**

I misunderstood the insurance guy. I get to keep the title - please see below.

One thing I learned after my first week in Detroit going to Wayne State Univ is that oncoming and cross traffic never wants to stop. After almost getting plowed into I waited a long time at lights before proceeding.

I always stop at green lights, yellow means go fast and red means proceed with caution

Geez, the vultures didn't take long to start circling that body!

Yea, a salvage title sucks the wet noodle. If I had a community like this one around my hybrid Mariner, I would have taken their savage option in a NY minute. But without that, the idea of parting it was too much of a pain in the arse.

You have a good chance to save all the important bits for the members here, and help out a lot of people. Was the block damaged, you think?

NO, I'm not interested in it RacerTracer - but I'm sure with the number of people recently that have had issues, someone will be wanting that engine.

I’m trying to gauge interest in selling her as is, you pick up at Lake Orion MI and arrange transport.

Title is clear, will NOT be a salvage title, and I will sign over for the scrap value. Buyer is responsible for MI sales tax and title transfer. (Evidently it's too old to require a salvage title.)

She has 100038 miles on odometer, my blessed insurance company doesn’t want to fix her.

Please visit my PhotoBucket album for a more complete set of pictures. Damage appears to end at cooling fan. Doors are straight, engine appears to be fine.

Engine block was replaced with a MOPAR reman, along with new turbo, injectors, and timing belt on 11/12/10 at odometer 78131.

PM me for a full list of (mostly warranty) parts replaced and, if interested the list of repair parts in the insurance quote.

Included:
Renegade Light Bar,
MOPAR iPod integration kit (old gen iPod compatible),
Two MOPAR subwoofers.
Zero offset steel wheels and Wrangler MT/R’s
The six disc in-dash changer died years ago and is not in the dash.

Negotiable:
Original aluminum rims with Michelin XP Rib load range E summer tires.

needs an ARB

(personally I've ridden a bike too much - I never, ever trust a car driver to do what they're supposed to)

Maybe a few clarifications are in order.

I'm looking to sell her as is. It's a 2005 KJ Limited, G package. Every option except for the Nav, plus a few extras noted above. Asking $6000. It is currently not drivable.

I don't have the time, storage, or tools to properly part her out or repair her myself. Insurance estimate put her at $12k running - their repair estimate was, in my opinion, grossly overinflated.

Michigan requires I declare the sale price on the title transfer so the buyer can pay the proper amount of sales tax. That price is $2275 keeping the sales tax down to approx $136.

I'm giving up. Time to stop fighting City Hall.

The anti-diesel brigade can go to sleep easier tonight knowing that one more dreaded compression ignition vehicle is off the road.

I'm ordering a Wrangler, but not the one I want, because some finance weenie at Chrysler can't see past his spark plugs and make a 'positive business case' for bringing the CRD Wranglers state side.

On my way home tonight, traffic started to bunch up on the freeway, and I noticed a KJ ahead of me switch lanes quickly. It then accelerated away, giving the unmistakable puff of defiance.

Carry on...
