That is surprising that it didn't solve the problem! On mine, it was the rear U joint that connects the shaft to the axle. It looked fine, but when hammered it out, two of the four caps were full of rusted bearings! I really couldn't tell if it was that bad until I popped out the U joint. When you greased the splines on the other side of the shaft, what kind of grease did you use and how did you re-attach the boot?
