Most of the CCV mods posts are dated. Does anyone have a different or newer type of provent system that will fit and work on 2006 CRD? Does anyone have some links that I can investigate?

Thanks Cal.

I've watched the chat for quite some time and:
1. EHM - vent to atmosphere. Usually down along frame rail so smell and drips go to ground. Not environmentally good and hose can freeze-up and blow rear main seal unless vent slits are cut in hose higher in engine bay.
2. Commercial Provent - bit pricey if I recall but does have overpressure vent valves.
3. Homemade provent variations - usually lack over pressure valves but can be made with PVC pipe and some coarse stainless steel scrubby pads for filter medium
4. BMW IIRC cyclonic filter.

My cheap approach - good oil, oil/filter change interval no longer than 6K miles or so, GDE tune to keep soot out of oil, SAMCO hoses, and check airbox to turbo hose each oil change. To the extent I've seen reports of the amount of oil captured it's not much and CCV/PCV systems have been tossing crankcase vent oil back into the intake since the 1960s if not earlier without much problem absent soot in the oil.

Yes the Provent contains a pressure relief valve. The amount of oil captured from the mist is a function of how far you drive between drains but most people seem to get less than a cup in about three months. That's oil that is not going into your intercooler and mixing with whatever soot enters your system at the egr port. As indicated a GDE tune will stop 'further' soot entering the mix but doesn't clean out the existing mess, that's a physical job.
