Thanks Papaindingo! Well its been raining like a SOB over here in Vt, i grabbed the tarps for the dirt driveway where the jeep was dropped off last night and worked on her. First checked the starter fuse under the hood, the 10 amp one. It was blown, replaced it still nothing. Went to the fuse panel inside the jeep to check them, they were all good. Ended up taking my jumper cables hooking positive lead to the battery and going down under the starter unhooked the yellow female clip that jumps the selonoid. Hooked some aligater clips to the male prong out fo the starter and bumped her a couple of times. The starter did the "im stuck all the way out and hitting or am stuck on the ring gear noise" and so i bumped her a couple more times and still the same noise. Gave her a couple seconds and hit the starter lightly with a adjustable wrench bumped her a couple more times, nothing. Once more and she cranked.
I am thinking the starter gear was stuck out on the flywheel. I do know when i bought the rig almost 6 months ago it had a brandy new starter put it right as i was buying it. The owner i bought it off of said there was a small knick in one of the gears on the ring gear, this has me to believe that the starter gear got jammed out on that knick and it was a 1 in a million chance that it happened. i have started the jeep up again cold to make sure it would work, then brought her up to full operating temp and shut her down and she still fires back up.
Input would be nice, but i believe what i had stated was the culprit, lets just hope it doesnt happen again when im out on a trail or something
