Couple of questions on this. Background info, currently I am tearing engine down due to coolant leak. Suspect head gasket but while I have it apart might as well fix as many problems as I can. I see the Weeks kit has excellent reviews and very interested in it but money is extremely tight as I fix the head gasket. What is the advantage of the Weeks kit over a block off plate plus removing the coolant hoses like CATCRD and others have done? I have GDE tune so EGR should already essentially be disabled.
Also does anyone have links to the pictures CATCRD posted? they are not showing up when I pull up this thread.
The Weeks kit allows you to completely remove the FCV, EGR valve, EGR feed tube, all EGR cooler engine coolant hoses, and EGR cooler assembly!
If money is tight, you can block off the EGR feed tube with a metal blank, then remove butterfly plate out of the FCV (two small screws hold it in), plug the EGR cooler hose at the head and then install a straight 5/8 hose connector (available at most auto parts stores) in place of the "Y" where it connects back in on top of the motor. This will eliminate the EGR, FCV and several potential coolant leak points...
No tune can completely guarantee no leak by from the EGR valve, only blocking it off with a plate or plug or totally removing it with the Weeks kit can completely ensure 100% elimination of soot entering the intake manifold! EGR valves are notorious for leaking by or not closing off all the way! When they leak by for whatever reason, you can loose boost and still suck soot into the intake under certain conditions!!!
CATCRD's pictures are not working, looks like the links are broken...
