Well after hauling the GF's horse trailer this past weekend and running extreme temps (3/4 the way up on the needle) while hauling it up through the hills of vt, i started digging into everything and seeing why the rig wasnt cooling down. I know it doesnt have the Hayden XD clutch fan and i still have the metal mech. fan, but what i just realized today was that my electric fan is not running. I ran a test with a Snap-On Modus to see if the fan was operating and sure enough it was not. I plugged in a new fuse block for both high and low for the fan and the relay clicked as though it was working, but the fan did not turn over.

With that being said, im assuming the fan is shot. has anyone ever ran a switch for their electric fan on these rigs for wheeling purposes so i can keep her cool all the time?

Do the electric fans help a lot or am i wasting my time getting a new and hooking it up?

Last i tried tracing where there would be a plug in for the fan and can not find anywhere that i could unplugg this fan to install a new one.

All and any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

The harness connector for the electric fan is behind the plastic grill.

I traced it all the way to the airbox where it looks as though it ties into the main wiring harness loop. Couldnt find a connector anywhere inbetween these areas.

Don't go over 3000 RPMs. My EGTs soar when I am revving. I tow in 3rd locked up at 2700 RPMs.

Last year before my trans tune, I was towing hot. But so far, no issues this year.

Big thing, get a hayden fan clutch. The stock fan clutch sucks.

Electric fan does not remotely move enough air. As previously stated, Hayden fan clutch, GDE HOT and Tow tunes.

The electric fan, just behind the grill, is not a engine cooling fan although I suppose it helps a bit when it's running. That fan, like all similar fans, is there to force air across the AC condensor so your AC will cool properly. Hence it trips on/off and high/low based on AC sensors, don't ask me what sensors or where although this post might help viewtopic.php?f=5&t=67046 or send him a PM. If the fan doesn't run try applying power directly to see if 1) motor burned out; 2) relay bad if it runs that way then likely the switch(s) associated with the AC system that trigger the fan have issues or perhaps your AC is low on charge is about all I can offer.

Mechanical fan is what provides max engine cooling and the OEM fan clutch is 1) known to fail and 2) if working kicks in IIRC at an engine temp on the order of 2225+F well up into an over heat curve. The Hayden 2905 with or without the OEM plastic fan is much stronger and kicks in at an engine temp more like 200F just at the start of an over heat curve.

PS with a garden hose check your AC condensor/intercooler/radiator package to be sure the fins are not clogged and air can flow freely.

Will be ordering the hayden next week. If im hauling close to 5000, are my egts going to be going through the roof? I have yet to get the gauge cluster and a egt gauge, but was wondering if anyone does have a egt gauge and hauls this kind of weight?
