Recently my wife's CRD began making some noises...I'll try to describe as best I can. Going down the highway all is normal even accelerating from a stop. Braking to a stop from about 10mph to a stop sounds like the "diesel rattle gets a bit louder. Stopped in neutral, engine running, normal. Put in reverse with foot on the brake, "diesel rattle" gets louder and a slight vibration in the steering wheel. Put in drive with foot on the brake and "diesel rattle" seems to oscillate between slightly louder and normal with no vibration. Put in park and shut off the engine and sometimes a "clunk-clunk" just before the engine stops. CRD runs great, idles smooth, plenty of power. I'm leaning towards motor mounts. Anyone have any other suggestions? 96K on the odometer. |

Motor Mounts are shot both of them. Just order two of the cheapest ones (driver side i think) and transfer the heat shield on the other one to the new one. The motor mounts are exactly the same except for the heat shield. If they have been replaced in the last 6 Months i would check to make sure everything is tight and nothing has worked its way loose. |

Yup, motor mounts. It MAY also be the rear transmission mount. Check this with the hood open, have someone stand on the brake and shift into reverse (let it settle), then into drive (same settling) then back to reverse again. Look at how the engine moves. Side-to side, whichever side rocks "deeper" is the bad one. Probably both. If the engine also tilts forward or back... Transmission mount. |

Just had the bride in the driver's seat shifting reverse to drive as suggested above. Engine rocks more when in reverse then when in drive. I would guess by looking at the plastic engine cover it moved about 1/4" maybe a bit more when in reverse and just slightly when in drive. I'm going to order 2 new motor mounts this evening. Thanks... |

That actually might also indicate the transmission mount, if it rocked downward at the back. You need to think about how the force is being transferred from the engine. The engine only rotates clockwise (as you are looking at it from the front) so in drive, everything rotates the same way. The force (since it is being stopped at the wheels) will actually shift the engine counter-clockwise toward the passenger side. That side would dip. In reverse, the opposite is true - the force outbound from the transmission wants to rotate the driveshaft counter-clockwise, and since it again is being stopped at the wheels - the engine dips on the driver's side. Sounds like you have found the problem tho, be careful when changing them! If you don't have access to a shop crane / engine hoist, (I didn't) a 2x4 as padding under the very front of the oil pan with a floor jack can work wonders. If I was doing it again, I'd certainly go the shop crane way. Much safer, now that I think about it. Just remove the fan and shroud from the radiator no matter which way you do it, and you will have plenty of room to flex the engine... Until the transmission pushes into the firewall. |

Thanks for the installation tips. I don't have a shop crane so the floor jack with the block of wood will be my option. I've read the post on the GDE site about how to install the passenger side mount and looks pretty straight forward. I did some preliminary poking around and that one looks quite easy to get to. The driver's side bottom nut is tucked above the front differential and may be a bit more of a challenge. |

If you do include removal of the fan and shroud I'd recommend doing a fan shroud mod to make future access easier see viewtopic.php?f=98&t=64278&p=709322#p709322 and GDE's comments on passenger side motor mount replacement are at http://www.greendieselengineering.com/f ... t/115.page Chat suggests drivers side is harder and requires extensions and such to get a socket up to the bottom bolt. |

I replaced both motor mounts today. The passenger side one was OK, the drivers side mount was shot....rattles inside when shaken. I was able to jack up the engine with a floor jack and a block of wood enough to get the mounts out without removing the fan or fan shroud. Needless to say, the rattle noises are gone. |

So does anyone have the parts #s for the engine and transmission mounts and a name of a reputable online distributor? |

Motor mounts driver side 52129011AD (may be used on passenger side if heat shield on existing mount is moved to the new mount) and passenger side 52129374AC. Don't know about tranny mount but you should be able to find PN in parts manuals you can download from Sam's NOOB guide. Suppliers idParts is good but don't rule out your local dealer. If you know the parts folks they will often give you a good price compared to online once you factor in online shipping especially on small or single items. |

Tanks for the two outta three. I did look at the microfiche but it doesn't seem to give me the # I'm looking for. I got two completely different #s for the engine mounts? Amslube? Do you have the OEM # for the transmission mount? |

Like stated above, engine mount/isolator part# 52129011AD. Buy 2 and simply transfer the heat shield to the new mount from the old on the passenger side. I don't have any part numbers for the transmission mount. I bought mine from MoparPartsAmerica.com. |

No worries. I did some price checking, then went to the dealer with my VIN. Dealer slightly beat the online price for the transmission mount, but not on the engine mounts (price+shipping). I queried the rep about it, to which he got defensive, giving me a line about questionable quality. I will post the # for reference when the part comes in. |
