My Hayden #2905 fan clutch just took a nose dive after 8 months of service. What's the life span of a fan clutch? |

Well - I'm not sure the stock ones lasted past the drive off the dealer's lot....... How did you determine it's dead - block the air flow until it gets hot? |

Hayden web site test procedure. If fan free spins more than 2 times when the engine is hot then the clutch is done. Fan spins excessively - Three or more times when hot engine is shut off. |

So what prompted you to investigate tbe health of your fan clutch? If it were me, I would heat mine up with a heat gun to well over 170F and see if it locks to be sure. DOC |

I was thinking of picking one of these 2905's, not a very long run on yours! Sounds like my luck, maybe it was just assembled on a Friday.. |

Don't recall, RacerTracer, are you running the OEM fan or the nylon 11 blade? |

Have you taken it off and the noise went away? Many people think their fan clutch is making noise, but it is almost always something else. DOC |

Usually the clutch noise is noticeable when accelerate. Idling should not make any distingtive noises, unless it's really messed up. A bad clutch would sound like a growl when.accelerating. This is why I'll go with e-fans soon... |

Don't let the lady of the house catch you using her heat gun, excuse me, I meant HAIR DRYER. That would be bad Very bad. And especially make sure that you use gloves. Those greasy fingerprints are hard to deny. |
