Recently someone mentioned that the new OEM water pump showed signs of increased flow rate.

Can anyone validate that?

Was there a revision to the original VM water pump?

Physically measuring the flow rate of an older OEM pump verses a new OEM would be a good way to find out. We need volunteers.

Keeping the head cool by increased coolant flow, may help prevent a HG failure.

Coolant flow is directly controlled by the thermostat so the only time a more powerful pump would be a benefit is when the system is stressed and the stat is fully open i.e. when towing or hill climbing.

If you really want to increase coolant flow I can sell you a broken OE stat
