I am replacing my Serpentine Belt, Tensioner assembly and Idler pulleys on my 2006 CRD. There appears to be some discrepency about torque settings quoted/listed in the FSM. Accordingly, I am treading cautiously lest a sheared bolt make a bigger project out of a smaller one. The torque specs I found here: http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/ ... -KJ-SM.pdf for the Belt Tensioner and Idler pulleys (Group Tab Locator 9 - Engine, page ENGINE - 2.8L DIESEL 9 – 1599 or Position 4116 on the scroll down bar) show: 33 ft lbs for the Belt Tensioner Bracket (Accessory Drive Bracket) 39 ft lbs for each of the two Idler Pulleys Are these the correct torque value settings that folks here on the board are using for torquing these components? Not sure, but I think I went a little lower on both, if I remember correctly, more like 25 and 33. Use blue Locktite on everything and nothing will fall off. DOC |

For what it's worth torque values on the reverse thread idler pulleys are somewhat silly. The reason they are reverse thread is so that the direction of rotation of the belt will tend to tighten them not loosen them. As such just run them down snug and you are fine. Note also that there are a few places where the FSM torque values are vastly wrong especially for things that screw into aluminum. If a value looks too high it likely is. Also in a few places the manual does not give ft. lbs just nm and inch lbs be careful not to confuse inch lbs for ft. lbs; example glow plug torque. |

Many thanks, DOC and papa. Took the weekend off from piddling with my CRD. I've replaced both ideler pulleys and am now at the point of removing the tensioner unit. Time for the power steering pulley to come off to provide clearance to remove the tensioner. Thanks again for your help guys! |
