I changed my fuel filter and was just tightening the bleeder screw when *snap*... the whole head cracks and diesel pours out.

I guess I'm switching to the 2nd gen fuel filter head afterall.

Does anyone know where the cheapest source for one of these is? If there isn't one at the dealer I will have to have it shipped quick from somewhere.

I'm probably going to need some help with the new wiring too, once I get it.

See my post at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=75083&p=787402&hilit=wiring#p787402 and shop around. The wiring envelop will, for reasons that escape me, contain 2 sets of wires; use one discard other.

Thanks. Well the dealers don't have it near my house. I think I'm just going to order online and do one day shipping. Not going to be cheap but I need it yesterday.

Got my Racor from B-line filters in a day and it came out cheaper then the Mopar.

Stanadyne filter heads are also an option, and are a LOT cheaper on the elements too. They offer 5 and 10 micron elements for like $5 per. Only downside is finding a place that has them, if you don't want to order (or need them fast).

How would a fuel filter manager out of a 90's 6.5 diesel work out?

I can't say I know what it looks like, but if the hose connections can be made to fit, I would think it would work just fine. The only thing that will be missing is the electrical connections for the heater (Possibly don't need this - the fuel WILL be winterized anyway) but I don't remember what the other top electrical connection is for. The water-in-fuel sensor should screw right in to the drain connector.

I already ordered OEM.

I still can't believe I broke the thing.

I always hear that the fuel heater doesn't need to be plugged in. Is this true for the new one? The reason is I might not have time to screw with the wiring. I have somewhere to be and it might come in time just for a quick swap.

I wouldn't think you would have to worry about a fuel heater this time of year

Or just about any other time of year, south of the 65th parallel?
(The arctic circle, if I got my latitudes wrong)

Leave the heater unplugged, drive happy.

edit: Wow - way off on my original guess. Arctic circle is 65th parallel North.

Got it up and running today. Maybe having to get the 2nd gen was a blessing in disguise. :SOMBRERO:

To re-wire the heater...

Basically splice off the old pigtail into the new one and plug it in, am I right?

Would anyone want the old gen fuel head that's cracked at the bleeder screw for some reason? Before I throw it away anyway...
