Searching through some old posts with similar issues, they lead to a problem with the transmission pump. You should take it to a transmission shop for a proper diagnosis.

I will not make it to a transmission shop for another couple of weeks. A new Accelerator pedal never fixed anything.

No codes.

The transmission only acts funny when the lightening bolt light is on. Seems the light is on about 1/2 the time. The floor mat is removed, so that has nothing to do with anything.

My brother had the exact same problem and it turned out to be the speed sensor on the left rear wheel that caused the issue. I'll check there next.

I called the local dealership and the service guy said it is usually a speed sensor related issue. Or a ground anywhere in the system.

I never asked if there was a way to test the speed sensors.

can you change the sensors out by themselves or do you have to change the bearing to change the sensor?

Hi there, I recently bought a Jeep Cherokee 2.8 CRD (2007 - manual) and have noticed that whenever I accelerate to over 60mph the ETC light comes on and continues to flash until I turn off the engine completely, wait a few seconds and then it returns to normal. There is no loss in performance at all and does not switch on when if I travel less than 60mph. Any thoughts on what this could be? Apologies if this has already been answered.

In my case the lightening bolt was the front wheel speed sensor. I changed both front wheel bearings and the issues were all resolved.

I had also heard the alternator can cause the same issue. I changed that first. I am usually not big on parts swapping without a complete diagnosis. But at 140,000 miles, I thought those parts were due for changing anyway. The alternator had some dusting so i do not think I was out anything more than an unscheduled / untimelystop by changing it.

OK.. Have a 2005 2.8L –
Driving the other day and the following happen..
Got a red battery display come up on the dash … then a few minutes later got the red lightning flash symbol come up – (No loss in performance) and then a few minutes later got the ABS then airbag symbol then hand brake symbol… then about 10 minutes up the road … the truck just completely shut down – lost everything…
Funny thing is – was installing radio gear in truck and tested the power line and the voltage was 12.89Vdc … without engine running, never had issues starting the truck. All grow plugs changed out less than a year ago.. Serviced every 5K - 149K on the clock..
Ideas?? My thinks alternator has shat itself… ???

Any decent parts store or battery outlet (ex. Interstate) can load test battery and check alternator output for free in like 10 minutes including wait time
