I've read several threads on oil but haven't found much info on what filter is considered the best to use. Is there a preference for which filter to use when running extended drain intervals?

If possible find M1-211 by Mobil 1 and it has synthetic fibers for better filtering then papaer filters, I am not sure but I think AMSOIL has a synthetic fiber filter. If not using a synthetic filter, then I would stick with OEM. Your extended oil change range will depend on what conditions you are driving under and oil used, but if it is basically just street/highway driving and a high quality synthetic oil designed for diesels then there is no real reason not to go the full 12,500 miles. I will be doing 10,000 mile oil changes just for ease of remembering when it's due.

ON (OldNavy) you are as bad as I am about remembering when to do something. Amsoil just came out with a new nanofiber filter. You can read about it herehttps://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eao.aspx. I just ordered it along with the Euro 5-40 oil that I will change on Thusday if it is delivered on Wed. I am hoping the 5-40 oil slows down the CCV problem until ON's filter is available. Also the Wally World high quality filter has got great reviews on some of the independent oil filter tests.

That is what im using now, the Euro 5W/40 with the Ea34 filter, I have only got about 900 miles or so on it, but seems to have quieted the engine a tad. I like it so far.

I was talking with Greg at Lubespecialist about using those filters, and will probably start using those after using the one Mobil 1 oil filter I have left.

As far as I was ever able to find out, nothing in the line of oil brand or type made any real difference in amount of oil being sucked into intake by CCV.
