Ok, I'm sure it's discussed somewhere else, but my iPad isn't playing nice with the search feature... Made it through the crd noob post though That said, a lot of vehicles (like the Porsche 944T I used to own) would have MAJOR differences year to year even though they were the 'same' car. We're there any major changes between the 2005 and 2006 model years for the CRD's? Thanks, Ian |

Traction control for 06. |

Big difference is the ABS/Traction control in 06. That also eliminated the limited slip option. Also, I believe side airbags were introduced as an option in 06, so that is why they pillar gauge pods only fit up to 05 (made mine fit). The computer was changed a bit, that is why people with 05's are more successful with OBDII apps like Torque where the 06, the OBDII would stop responding after a period of time. |

05 - wheel speed sensors (2 front/1 rear on differential housing), limited slip differential as an option but apparently not too common, may or may not have had the full F-37 recall done (if final gear shift is ca. 62mph the full F-37 was done; if not at least the TCM shift points were not messed with) 06 - wheel speed sensors (2 front/2 rear), limited slip differential not available, electronic stability program which is why 4 wheel speed sensors (needed to run system) and no limited slip (cannot have ESP and limited slip as systems incompatible, side airbags were an option and if fitted there will be a label as nearly as I can tell above and between the front/rear windows, mostly came from Factory with F-37 already done As noted there is a different computer protocol for communication thru the port located below and to the right of the steering wheel column although I don't pretend to understand the differences. Really not much difference. I suspect hard core off roaders to the extent they have a KJ prefer the 05 with limited slip. The 06 ESP can be cranky sometimes on twisty roads although it can at least partially be switched off and if you state has an emissions inspection program that involves placing the vehicle on "rollers" the ESP can kick in and throw the vehicle into limp mode if inspection is not done properly. PS you can get copies of the Owner's Manual from the Jeep website or Sam's NOOB guide and compare. |

It's kind of off topic, but limited slip is not incompatible with ESP. LS stops wheel spin before it happens. ESP stops it after it happens, so it logically has less spin to deal with if there is an LSD in the equation. Jeep dropped the LSD option in 06 not because it was incompatible, but because they deemed it unnecessary, and cheaper without it. |

On the 2005 is the front diff LSD? I always thought it was just an open diff. |

I have a 2006 (year of registration in SA) model. But I think it is a 2005 (manufactured) according to the VIN nr. It have LSD and no TC. But is does have side airbags. Also have the Full Time 4wd option. Maybe some things were different on the export models? Regards. |

Quote: electronic stability program which is why 4 wheel speed sensors (needed to run system) and no limited slip (cannot have ESP and limited slip as systems incompatible That is not true. Adding a limited slip like truetrac along with ESP and traction control works really well. Limited slip diffs don't always work when needed. Lots of time you end up having to drive and left foot brake to make the limited slip work. Having traction control it does the braking for you. This vid shows that once the brakes are applied it caused the limited slip to engage. Skip to 2:04 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uwpNpvsshQ |

Applying brake to the slipping axle causes the torsen to send the torque the other way and makes sure that there is at least some torque on the slipping wheel |

Is it possible to swap the 2005 rear LSD into a 2006? Is it a drop in? |

imclumzy wrote: Is it possible to swap the 2005 rear LSD into a 2006? Is it a drop in? it would not be a drop-in. you'd have to disable the ESP - the 05 only had a center sensor -the 06 computer is expecting readback from each wheel seperately. and I'm not sure it'd be worth it - an 05 limited slip would be 8 years old - clutches would be dead - it'd need a rebuild - and if you're going to rebuild something - put in a TrueTrac - never wears out - no special additives and I think it'll work with the ESP. |

Mine still works great, and all the fluid I want to put in have the special additives weather I want them or not. |

So does mine. I've never read of any problems other than Racer 'forgetting' to ever change the lube. OTOH, I've read several posts about the rear brakes locking up on curvy mountain roads (that's where I live) when the ESP gets confused. |

Did the 05's have the TPMS? Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk |

My 05 has TPMS but does not show tire pressure readout on EVIC. It only states that a specific tire has low or high pressure. The other day stated my spare had low tire pressure. |

Ok. I think it might have been an optional feature or a feature of the Limited. Mine started telling me my spare was low a month or so ago and yesterday it says low tire pressure. I think what is really happening is the batteries are dying one at a time and that's the way it's telling me. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk |

KD6ICZ wrote: Did the 05's have the TPMS? My 05 Limited has TPMS and EVIC! EVIC shows tire pressure for each individual tire and low pressure warning is also shown on dash instrument panel with a sesperate warning just for the spare tire. I actually had to let air out of the spare to find out just how it worked. Pretty neat little system! |
