Help me. Does anyone know what this is from? Is it a recall? I just bought a crd and love it but I hope I don't have to dump a lot of money in it. I don't know much.

Check your ball joints, Shocks, Struts first.

It could also be the rear transmission mount - This was a bugger to figure out on mine, and it would constantly be making a low frequency thumpy type noise, and only at low speeds or turns. If you drive around on a gravel or dirt-and-rocks parking lot, does it make a lot of the noise then?

If so - transmission mount. The mount isn't that hard to change, it is directly between the transmission cross member and the tail of the transmission. Use a floor jack to support the transmission and you can unbolt the cross member to take it out. IIRC, it was like $100 at a dealer for the part.

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the suspension. I'm having the same issue develop. I'm fairly sure it could by cv joints or control arms with the specific symptoms I am having. Neither of those SHOULD be an expensive fix.

Last but not least, check the sway bar bushings and end links.

x2

extremely common - although the fix has gone from installing grease zerks (bad), to spraying with silicon spray to just washing...

personally I don't think the silicon spray degrades the bushing - but I'm not sure.

I had the upper ball joint on the rear end press out of the control arm. It rattled a lot on bumpy concrete roads and also handled very poorly with the rear end floating around...
