I just deleted my EHM because of highly adverse smells coming from the EHM. I intended to just do it in order to figure out definitively where the smell was coming from. Smelled like burnt oil. This was all after I had some white smoke issues coming from my exhaust after driving through rain puddles on a low fuel tank...some suggested it was my EHM so I decided to go through a process of elimination to figure it out... Anyway, since deleting my EHM I have noticed a 10% increase in fuel mileage. Any ideas why this might be? I'm also wondering if I finally got to summer mix diesel at the station? Would be interested to hear thoughts. |

I'll be curious to see what others post, but I noticed absolutely no difference in fuel mileage when I did the EHM. I track my mileage every tank too. |

When you say "deleted" the EHM, do you mean you stuck the hose from the PCV puck back into the turbo inlet hose? |

I saw no change in mileage either. It might be odd that summer diesel took that long to get to you, but that could be. Might also be that you got a better batch of fuel overall - sometimes I get diesel at particular stations and I can just about feel the increased power right away. Those tend to be the best tanks. I generally don't use any additives, if I knew for certain (scientifically) that stuff like Howes made a difference, I would happily use it. |

I am concerned about the white smoke out the exhaust. This occurs when the crankcase is pressurized. We have seen this when people have done the mod incorrectly or their breather hose has frozen shut in winter. If you inadvertantly sealed your your crankcase, it would make sense that your mileage could increase after fixing that. Hope you did not blow out your rear main seal. A properly done EHM is important because the stock system closes at higher rpm, just when you would NOT want it to. (Geordi figured that out, I believe.) DOC |

Doc, I had the ehm going for several years and suddenly saw white smoke one day when I drive through some substantial puddles during one of our many downpours of late. I posted about this and a couple folks suggested clogged ehm. Although I could see exhaust coming out of the ehm I decided to try and evaluate the situation and plug it back into the turbo inlet. I was also getting some adverse smells, like burning oil so wanted to figure out if that was also due to the ehm. After all this I see that my mileage has gone up, so thought I'd pose the question. I usually get about 125 miles before the needle hits 3/4 tank so I could tell pretty early. I am on the 2nd tank since this "unmod" and I am at 150 miles (20% increase) on the current tank. The white smoke went away when I refilled the fuel tank because I was also low on fuel at the time...I've only seen the white smoke one more time since and that was after driving through a bunch of water again. |

Another of Mopar's questionable changes, I'm sure. Barley - The white smoke could have a very simple explanation, since it only happens when you hit puddles. I'm going to make an assumption that your engine was warm and that it had been raining, yes? How about white smoke is steam from the hot exhaust at the catalytic converter, since that can easily be 500 degrees or more if you haven't removed it, or from the brake discs? When you hear hoofbeats, it probably isn't mastodons.... |

See if your airbox has water in it. If you have had EHM for years and only now you are having noxious smells, obviously something new is going on that you need to figure out. DOC |
