Have jeep hitched up airstream,drove around on freeway and gets the ding! Things done so far,hoat,thermo,flush,Hayden fan. Seems to have gotten worse than last year. Could the problem be turbo? Found new turbo 300 aftermarket. No PCM gauge flash done yet. Should I worry running in red,ding

Get the radiator flow tested, if your not the original owner it could have crud blocking the tubes and need a cleanout.

Yes, absolutely you should worry.

You have a problem. It's potentially a big expensive one.

If you overheat this engine, you have high odds of warping/cracking the head and blowing the head gasket.

If it overheats while towing on relatively flat ground, there is something wrong with the cooling system. I'll agree you need to get the radiator tested. If it was running the wrong coolant, there is potential for a coolant gel blob blocking something. These things normally only overheat when towing a load near the limits, while climbing hills in hot weather.

How big is this Airstream you were dragging around? "the limits" are 64 square feet frontal surface area, 24 feet length, and 5,000 lbs weight.

Other suggestions sound good but here is another one. Get a IR thermometer run the cluster temp gauge up to ca. 3/4; pull over and with the engine at idle use the IR thermometer to check the temp at the top of the tstat housing should be about 230F. I bring this up because with an 05 it's possible you temp gauge is not properly calibrated per the TSB (see http://www.greendieselengineering.com/f ... st/19.page) in which case the chime is bogus.
