Has anyone made aluminum pipe to replace the polymer boost hoses?

there has to be some flex..the intercooler is fixed but the inlets and outlets must move.
the engine moves...

this doesn't mean most of the pipe cannot be rigid..just the couplers..

Dodge Ram has been using rigid pipe for years..the couplers or flexible..


ok so this might not answer your question..but its possible to more fixed pipe..

Run a search on this forum for "mandrel". It's been done, with short lengths of Samco hose at the ends, and somewhere there are pictures.

I would like to go that route. Did the place that did the work enter it in to the computer so they could easily reman the pieces?

I have seen exhaust shops do it out of Stainless steel in less then and hour. They are heavy but work then all you have to do is cut a boost hose up for the ends and some clamps.

Yes, mine and my Dad'S CRD's both have that plumbing.

In short my CRD has one out of aluminum and the other out of stainless steel, my dad's has both out of aluminum.

Also, I made an extra set out of aluminum.

Given the friction gains I plan to do it next time but the Samcos (to replace OEM) I used seem to be pretty robust.

Did you make them out of aluminum or aluminized steel? I'd be really careful with aluminum as it's so soft anything touching it will wear a hole in it eventually. In the Ford SD's with 7.3L Powerstrokes the pass side has a wire loom that goes over the top of it and the plastic wire loom wears grooves in it on every one I've ever seen. Also make sure to roll some beads on the ends or the couplers are likely to blow off with higher boost.

This is something I've got some experience with as I used to make similar kits for the '94-'97 Ford Powerstrokes. If there was enough of a demand for these pipes I could look into what it'd cost to have some made up.

Do you really gain that much? These would need silicone hose on the end of each pipe adding an extra 4 transitions in the system. I would suspect that this would detract from any gains.

I'm still on the OE hoses but when the time comes my money will be buying Samco or Mushimoto both of which come with lifetime warranties and should easily outlast the vehicle. Putting 8) aside I don't see a real need for rigid hoses.
