Post subject:  4600 MILE TRIP REPORT

Hi all, just did a 2 week trip to the Oregon coast and back to Oklahoma. I HAD NOT A SINGLE ISSUE.

The driving consisted of:

4000 miles highway
400 miles in town stop and go in Portland, coast, Mount Hood and around different cites and towns along the way.
180 miles on fire roads at Mount Hood
20 miles 4 wheeling at Mount Hood
These are approximate mileages as having to much fun to really keep track.

I averaged 26 MPG the whole trip.
The AC on cost me 2 MPG
Best mileage was AC off 65 MPH 30 MPG
75 MPH AC on interstate 80 across Wyoming I got 23 MPG. 103F outside air temp.
I used 1/2 quart oil I think it blows out the EHM

Had a great time planning another trip next year.

A trip like that would be either really fun or really grueling. Glad to hear you had fun!

Any pictures? :)

Sounds very similar to my experience driving through Colorado.

My only issues were a coolant leak under engine load due to a cheap clamp AND

My lower back hates the seats for long drives! You would think Limited/leather seats would be extra comfy!
It might have somthing to do with the center console being several inches lower than I'm used to.

(is this just me?)

The hardest part would be going back to Oklahoma.......

Post pictures - only time I got close to Mt Hood it was raining.....

Glad to hear another good story.

I have found my CRD does not like anything over 72 mph. At 75+mph the mpg drops considerably, from 28ish down to the low 20s. Luckily I only find speeds like that when visiting East Texas. For speeds like that we need another gear.

I have the (gas version) Sport edition and love the seats. The Jeep replaced a Geo Tracker which murdered my lower back after about 150 miles. I did a 400 mile trip back from my parents in the Jeep and had no problems. As a guess, I'd say it's more how the seat fits the individual person and not so much the seat itself. :)

Hey everyone, I'm TRYING to post some pictures but I need to consult with Obi Jaun Canoby and the force I guess. Will keep trying.

My seats I guess fit me great never any back pain.

I thought I had read somewhere that early kj seats can swap in and are to be more comfy. Any one have any input? I dislike my 05 leather seats also. The lumber could be adjustable and I can't seem to find the sweet spot while cruising. It has almost made me sell the liberty just for that reason! But I can't do it.

Awesome to hear you didn't have an issue. To be honest I wouldn't attempt a trip like that with mine!! I would not have any fun, I would be stressing about what could happen at any second with the little jeep! I really feel like I have fixed all the issues with mine but the girlfriend is tired of it and we are thinking about trading it in soon.
Figures right after I put a trans cooler, and in-tank fuel pump on the thing she is finally ready to ditch it. Just about to install the solenoid pack and shift kit in the trans today. Anyone want to buy it? ha!

That's really a sad painemann. We love ours enough to have 2. I would go on the trip with either. just took mine because I just had the TB changed and the wife's is getting ready for a TB change. The ONLY problems I have had has been an oil leak and a stripped drain plug with the engine. The other problems are wheel bearings and brakes but those happen with any vehicle. I believe if you do the things that are recommended in this forum your KJ CDR will last forever.

The guy with the Dreads is my son that lives in Portland. The lady is my wife. The beach is Hug Point and the mountain in Mount Hood. The lake is Mirror Lake.

I have done more then I care to think about to the little thing, we really love it also but she is ready for a new ride and I work a lot so I am having less and less time to keep up with the repairs. The last breakdown was the trans solenoid pack went and freaked her out, I was in Texas at the time abs it had to do this while I was over 1000 miles from home. It wasn't a big deal to replace, actually replaced it today.
Just time for something new.

Tedder I would get that K&N (if its an oiled not paper)out of the jeep ASAP, they are not known for their good filtration and these diesels like clean air!

Thanks, I do have a K&N filter just forgot to list it. I clean it every time I change the oil. I just love diesels the only thing I have that takes gas is the law mower and it would be diesel if they weren't so expensive.

Ya, get rid of the K&N! google "dusted turbo from k&n" and you will go to the auto parts store soon after!!
