After doing the water pump once. It was all together and I found the water pump to be leaking. Pulled it back apart and the o ring had gotten pinched. I just bought a new one from the stealership for $17. I put it on the front half with grease but it seems too big. I feel like I could lose approx. a Cm of the o ring and it would fit. The water pump is not Mopar the o ring is. Could that be an issue?

Which one? Between the two parts of the pump, or going to the block?

The one between the two halves of the water pump. I went through my receipts and it turns out I did buy the mopar pump.

I found the same thing. The o-ring is a little bigger in diameter than it should be. I used Hylomar sealant and a lot of care to make sure it seated properly and did not get caught between the halves. So sorry you had to do the whole job twice. Yukk!

When I did my TB and water pump, I was concerned about the same o-ring. So I let it run and get hot before putting the whole thing back together and before I put the expensive coolant back in. The truck can be ran without the serpentine belt stuff being put back on.

I took the front half of the water pump and the o ring back to the dealer. The parts guy thought that it was way too big. He ordered another one but it won't be in till next week. Hope it's right this time.

If you buy a new VM/Mopar pump where you can disassemble the front half, why not just re-use the "new" o-ring from the new pump? I'd just put some petroleum jelly on the o-ring and assemble it onto the old half still on the engine. Maybe I am wrong here?

Yeah I think the recommendation is to use something to hold it in place, SirSam mentions it I believe. Mine fit fine though

I just used a little assembly lube to hold mine into place, it was just a hair too big and I didn't want to pinch or roll it.

I then filled the pump with coolant and checked for leaks/seapage.
