I'm worried about my little engine. I did the elephant hose mod and ran it down to the bottom of the engine. I have what I would consider ALOT of blow by. A lot of oil vapor with it. I could live with it if I ran it hard and it needed time to vent the crank case. But it pours just idling. The engine has 55k miles. What's the procedure for a test? |

That does not sound good. A lot like a chimney? Are you using any oil? |

So far I haven't had to add oil inbetween changes. If somebody will talk me through putting up a video. I will put one up |

The vapor released from the EHM IS quite alarming when you are not familiar with it, but it is quite normal. Nothing to worry about, though you might want to run it out back next to the exhaust outlet so people do not run up to you telling you your engine is on fire. How do I know this? (I feel the EHM is critically important. Without it, crankcase pressurizes at higher RPM, just when you least want it too.) DOC |

I have the elephant mod and have always thought the same thing. I do tend to add some oil between changes, not much though. I remember reading about overfilling the oil causing a lot more blow by and even that the dipstick was wrong. The full mark was too full. I don't know how true this is though. |

If you fill to the full mark you will have overfilled the beast. Next oil change add 6.5 qts and then mark your dipstick. |

Or switch to a NAPA Gold 1515 filter and put 7 quarts in and be done with measuring out and keeping stupid half quarts of oil laying around. |

I had the EHM on my 2006 for about 5k miles never had a drop of oil come out the hose! HOW, first I disagreed with the construction of the PCV houseing on top the engine. It you very carefully disassamble the unit, you'll fined a spring that holds the diaphragm in the open position. I removed the spring so the diaphragm is normally in the closed position, until the crankcase has positive pressure to lift it. Also, I ran the hose to the front of the engine bay turning to the drives side, [all of this is under the engine cover] before dropping down under the driver side and wire tied to the frame. I ran the hose all the way back to just before the drives side rear tire. I never had 1 drop of oil fall out! I did fell I may have been losing so mileage not burning the oil vapor so I have resently made another mod. I got the hose fittings to connect the EHM to the intake air filter box. The part were only a few buck at the marine store. I pulled the box out drilled the hole added the parts and cut the hose to fit. Only have about 300 miles on this mod, just looked in the filter box and OMG looks like a drop or 3 of oil have come out. Hope that helps someone out. Jim KF5WJD PS Truely when I cut the unused hose out from underneath about one table spoon of oil came out "after 5k miles" with a 6.5 qts. per oil change. |

The problem that people have had with running the hose under and back is they plug up and or freeze in the winter, Causing no CCV and massive oil leaks. Like main seal blow outs. Not worth the trouble. That's my KJJET |

I have a used provent200 but I wanted to try and vent it into the air filter box pre-filter and see if how the filter holds up. Please let us know how your filter holds up with this mod!! I have my EHM strait down on the Lfront side and my girl friend had 2 people in one day say something about it so I am going to run it back by the exhaust and maybe shorten it in the winter, or just drill a hole in the low spot on the first bend down from the engine bay to drain any oil that pools. |

You think the Liberty CRD has a lot of blowboy? You should see amount of blowby I get in my Grand Cherokee CRD especially after towing a very large travel trailer over a 12,100+ foot pass. |

Im just unfamiliar with this motor. My truck, which is a medium built cummins 12 valve, has half the blow by this little engine does, at idle anyway. A hard run and 80psi of boost, she vents some, but I would expect that. Like I said, just unfamiliar with these engines |

DOC4444 wrote: (I feel the EHM is critically important. Without it, crankcase pressurizes at higher RPM, just when you least want it too.) DOC This isn't true. While the crankcase may be trying to generate more pressure, the outlet of the puck goes the intake or vacuum side of the turbo. If the venting from the engine was able to outpace the vacuum of the turbo, one would have an oily air filter or grill since it could vent through the intake duct. I'm not saying not to do the EHM. Over pressurization is not the reason for it. One does it to reduce or eliminate the oil that flows through the turbo hoses and intercooler. After having mine freeze once in a MI winter, that convinced me to leave it plumbed. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2 |

I believe Geordi disagrees. You two can fight it out. DOC |
