Hi, can anyone give me a little description on how this task is achieved? I tried a couple of times with no success, it seems it's a one piece unit that wraps around the fan blades and there's no room between the blades and the radiator for this piece to come out. I'm I missing something? Some tips and perhaps step by step instructions on how to remove it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all !!!! Willy. |

You need to take out the fan first, and those 2 (fan and shroud) came out together. If you search the forum (search for "fan shroud mod"), there is a mod most of us did, which separates the shroud in 2 pieces, top and bottom, so next time you won't have to take your fan out. Just pay attention when you take the fan out, you could mess up your radiator with the fan blades. Other than that, I remember there is a wrench Napa sells (you can buy kits from sears, but they cost more), a low profile, that would make your life easier and allow you to fit it in easier than a crescent. Before you start though, put plenty PB Blaster over that big nut and let it soak for a while. |

Thank you !!! I was afraid you were going to say that, I saw no other option but thought to myself " that can't be..." Well, I will search for that mod and would certainly get it done as well, that seems like a no-brainer. Thanks again !!! |

Take a 13MM socket and put it through the hole on the fan pulley on the bottom right and it will align with a nut back there that actually holds the fan pulley on. Use that 13MM socket to foul the pulley wheel and you can use a large crescent wrench to break that nut once you have fouled the pulley to keep it from spinning. You can watch sir sam's video on how to do the timing belt change and see the best way to remove the front so you can get the intercooler stack loose and get the fan/shroud out of your way. He is on YouTube as CORobotchicken, but if you search CRD Timing Belt you should find it as well. |

Oh, btw, fogot about it, what hexus said with that 13mm socket, otherwise you'll spin the fan with the pulley. The oulley is secured on the engine block by 3 13mm bolts, one of them is accessible through the pulley hole, I think is placement is right of pulley, kind of pain in the butt to see it. And that Napa wrench is pretty neat, even though you won't need it once you'll be done with the shroud mod. You could just buy it and return it when done. You could also be lucky and not need the 13mm socket "trick" (like I was 1st time I took it out - but you need the belt in place), you increase your luck by the amount of pb blaster you use on the big nut. |

also comes up if you search "aussie mod" you will make things a bit easier if you trim a small 45* notch in the front-left corner of the shroud to clear the AC line for that initial pull. |
