I have a 12v cummins that I love and have tweaked a lot. I'm thinking the CRD would be a good rig for my wife to replace a fun, but inefficient WRX. I have read the noob guide twice and am totally capable of those things. would it be a good rig for us? I am looking at a super nice 05 liberty limited with 95k on it. Barton jeep in spokane wants $12900 for it. advice for the possible newbie?

Talk them down at least $1500 for the upcoming timing belt change and add a $500 buffer in case the rocker arms are worn. $13k is a bit high unless the vehicle is pristine.

Price is high all over the pnw thats not a bad price for here a dealer in tacoma is selling a crd with 112k for $12k

Look further afield. Much further.

The difference can be many thousands of dollars, and a plane ticket is a few hundred. If you are serious, the mechanical needs will be the same virtually exclusive of the mileage. Even if you found a CRD with 35k miles on it, the timing belt needs to be changed NOW - all these belts are 7 and 8 years old, and they age will be starting to get to them.
