Hey people. I am getting a noise coming from the transfer case area right under my feet. It happens mostly on deceleration at any speed above 40 MPH and mostly when using the 4x4 mode. the sound is more like a rattling when letting go the gas pedal at speeds above 40mph. I did a search and tough I found a couple of similar things nothing quite like it.
What I've done so far was taking the front shaft off and inspected, so far nothing.
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong? the closest I can pint point the noise is to where the front driveshaft meets with the transfer case.
any thoughts?

I can only hope you are using the "Full Time" 4x4 mode at speeds above 40 mph, not the "part time" mode. PT Lo is unusable above 20 mph, and only a maniac would use PT Hi faster than 40 mph.

If you are using PT Hi on the highway at speeds above 40, no doubt the rattle you are hearing is because you've destroyed the transfer case. PT can only be used on slippery surfaces, such as gravel roads or snow/ice/mud. And under those conditions, 40 mph is a bad idea in general.

Sooooooo, assuming you are using FT, the transfer case definitely shouldn't be making a racket.

I'm wondering, have you checked the U-joints in the drive shaft to the rears?

u joints are about a year old and FS cv joints are 6 months old. the only thing i saw which im not sure is ok was a bit of play on the transfer case to front diff flange, the play is about an 1/16" up and down and is not the rotational play that is normally there.
How can you know the out put bearings on the transfer case are OK?

Does anyone have experience replacing the front passenger bearings on the axle shaft? I was able to pint point the rattling noise from there and if pay close attention it is accompanied by a humming.

Ok. As I was starting to tear down the front diff I notice that if I hit the front diff main mount sideways it would replicate the sound I had while decelerating, so thanks God I did not have to incur in costs as my wife just had to have surgery.
The front bolt of the mount was the culprit. Some how it got loose enough that it was extremely hard to notice but enough to cause a rattling sound similar to a failed front differential inner shaft.

Hi bro where is that bolt? beacause i have the same sound like u when put 4x4, like the ring and pinion is failing, also if you see it you could see the front driveshat when rotates make like a "jump"...ill check that bolt to see if that is the problem...
