Got a 1261 code on the way home today. I see that equates to a glow plug problem, so I guess I will be changing those out (dreading that, and hope I don't break them). While I am waiting for the parts is it still safe to drive or is that a no no until it is fixed? I am in Florida so cold is not an issue.
Just as a precaution does anyone know of a good diesel mechanic in Tampa Florida?

Keith has advised that when the ceramics fail electrically, they need to replaced because the tips will break off soon after.

One broken glow plug tip usually means one junk motor.

If you have some tools, it's not that hard to replace all 4 glow plugs. It took me a few hours but I was glad to get rid of the ceramic ones. I had the same problem you did and ordered the etechno plugs. I guess I was lucky, I drove around with the CEL for a month before I finally replaced the glow plugs. All 4 tips were still on. Just do yourself a favor, when you start the job, make sure you already have the guide on the puter so all you have to do is scroll up and down to find what you need in the write up. It really wasn't as hard of a job as I thought it would be.. Next up is the timing belt.

I replaced the glow plugs with etecnos and I am still getting the 1261 code. Looking to confirm that my next step is the harness? Also now that it has the steel glow plugs, is it safe to drive? it is well over 90 degrees here so I don't think they will even light off
